  • Bond's original gun was his Beretta. M forced Bond to switch to a Walther PPK on the Dr. No assignment after the Beretta jammed on Bond's previous mission. He used the Walther PPK until the Tomorrow Never Dies mission where he traded it for the more modern Walther P99. []
  • Bond's most dangerous foe was a man named Ernst Stavro Blofeld who headed up a criminal organization called SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion). []
  • In the first Bond movie, Dr. No, James' preference for the Beretta M1935 pistol is revealed. M objects. The gun jammed up on Bond the year before. The armorer, Major Boothroyd, says that the Beretta has no real stopping power. M orders Bond to switch to the Walther PPK. Boothroyd says that the American CIA swear by them. Interestingly, in the movie You Only Live Twice, Blofeld holds up an X-ray of Bond's Walther PPK and tells Mr. Osato that they know of only one man who uses that kind of gun.   • In the novels, James' secretary is Mary Goodnight. She makes an appearance in only one movie, The Man with the Golden Gun. She is portrayed as a guileless British agent who assists other agents. She is not Bond's secretary in the film. []

    This scene from On Her Majesty's Secret Service was a reference to Bond's preference for flying on Friday the 13th in the novel. He knew many people avoided flying on that date out of nervousness about the date, so he would have an easier time while traveling. []
