Among the most recognized and revered television newsmagazines, "20/20" was ABC's answer to CBS's "60 Minutes." Though some stories were humorous, light-hearted and sometimes frivolous features, the meat of "20/20's" programming was investigative reporting many times exposing corporate, medical, educational and governmental wrongdoing, incompetence and criminal negligence and reports on news events of the week from (often) different angles than was seen on the nightly news. Though most of the reports proved to be factual, some were heralded as sensationalist; others led to allegations of libel while at least one story later proved to be an embarrassing hoax. The series enters its 25th season this year.

The show's current co-anchors are John Stossel and Elizabeth Vargas.

  I would catch various episodes of 20/20 and found them very informative. Sometimes even scary to be informed at what was happening 'out there' without anyone seemingly doing something about it. This all changed on June 1st. That day 20/20 aired a report on a company I have been involved with for 10 years. The CEO was interviewed and parts of his interview were aired. Cameras were secretly taping meetings led by individual associates with this company and snippits were aired. Interviews with one woman who said these glyconutrients has healed her of cancer and had refused traditional therapy because of it were aired and discussed. To watch that program one would think here was yet another company selling snake oil and making false claims to get a buck. But this isn't so. 20/20, in my opinion has now reached the level of the National Enquirer and other such sleezy tabloids. They had an agenda and aired comments, etc., that "proved" their slant. And the poor unsuspecting viewer is now given information as FACT where the majority of what was presented really isn't fact at all. The CEO was smart. He had his own camera crew in filming the interview at the same time as 20/20 was. The whole interview is in 4 parts on youtube. The lady who was now cancer free also added to her blog. Here it is in full: Dear Mr. Martz: I speak for thousands of our loyal consumers and Associates when I convey how disappointed we are with the biased 20/20 segment about Mannatech that ABC News aired June 1. We believe ABC News shirked its journalistic ethics by completely ignoring the documents, data and information we provided that substantiated our science, debunked our critics and showed that hundreds of thousands of consumers worldwide attribute improved quality of life to our products. ABC News provided little of substance considering it conducted a three-month investigation. Despite the outlandish claims of our critics and ABC's deliberate distortion of the truth, it is amazing that you did not present one Mannatech consumer who was unhappy with the products they were taking. The science behind our products is one of the foundations of our company. The documentation we provided disproved allegations by researchers Hudson Freeze and Ronald Schnaar that Ambrotose doesn't work or has no benefit. It's ironic that, when armed with the allegations of our critics, the media insist we show them validation for our products. When we provide this validation, the media dismiss it as irrelevant. When we ask these same media to demand that our critics provide validation for their claims, they refuse. Neither Mr. Freeze nor Mr. Schnaar provided any evidence to substantiate their allegations. Did ABC even ask them to? Why did ABC News not mention Dr. John Axford, one of the world's leading glycobiologists who conducted a pilot study suggesting systemic beneficial effects in those who consumed Ambrotose? We provided you with this information but you chose to ignore it. Based on our discussions with some of the Mannatech independent Associates filmed via hidden camera, your undercover reporters were deliberately deceitful. Although one of the Associates told the undercover reporter repeatedly that Mannatech products did not cure disease, the reporter insisted that she say they did. She refused, but the one comment she did make was taken totally out of context. ABC News' distortion of the truth is a travesty. Stories like this influence the uninformed, who rely on the media's accuracy, balance and objectivity to make critical life decisions.   Does anyone know where I can find this episode. It was on last night or 1/19/07. It was about debt in America, and all sorts of credit cards and getting out of debt etc...... Ive looked all over. Itunes has a podcast but for one I dont have an ipod and 2 its only 34 minutes long. All i want is a nice download of it like any other show so I can watch it on my tv. I know how to "convert" it to a dvd to watch on tv. Its a matter of finding it though. Its not even listed on tv.com as airing. Anyone? Thank you less «

  A very good News program i lot of the storys are relly good and the ancors are good at their jobs a good late night news program with a handfull of ancors who report on storys form all over the world the programs storys are mostly for our benifit as consumers they do a lot of consumers reports which i relly like those are relly good storys wlater does the best job to me i think that is mostly what i have to say about this newsprogram i give this show called 20/20 a rating of 9.4 for good news reporting and storys.

  Too ideologically-flavored for my liking. hide « show »

  I too thought 20/20 was a fairly good show in the past, but now it seems more agenda-driven and aimed at stirring controversy. On more than one occasion, the show has seemed like a pulpit for Stossel's political ideology. In one moment, we hear a reasonable point, and in the next an "unbalanced" argument (or an argument presented with weak or extremist opposition) that oversimplifies an issue. He points out that some people make money from scaring people, but doesn't appear to challenge those maximizing profits in other questionable ways, like misleading the public to avoid reasonable, scientifically-based regulation. Or maybe I missed that show.

  I just saw the "hazing" that is so bad a cruel. First off its not suppose to be a treat to be accepted. Maybe they should go to boot camp and see how they work. You get broken down a then your built back up to make sure you have what it takes, because its real life. When you go to college alot of these kids have been out from under mommy and daddys arm sucking their thumbs. Not all frats are the same, different strokes for differnet folks. This is the tempo they set to see if the fly or fall. Myspace.com has crazier stuff that just seems normal to me and my peeps..........O what I get it this is a show for old people. Probably a range of 45 to dead. Marlyin Manson dosn't even shock my grandparents anymore. Go talk to a triple amputie thats is still going on with life, or has even a better outlook on life. You probably got some kick back for that stupid bad jocks website. Use your powers to make a difference, not just fill air time.

  I love to watch the news and see what is going on in the world today. 20/20 is a good news show I like JOhn the host i can not spell his last name but anyway the storys that they put on are good storys. This and primetime are good shows and to check out news storys. I all so like How John the host voice sounds it sounds like something out of a cartoon. Also when he dislikes something is funny how he puts those words togeter well i guess that is all i have and that is all.

  Good:
  This show has some really good stories. This show is pretty addicting even if you just watch it once. You just get sucked into the episode.
  
  Bad:
  This show sometimes has just flatout stupid ideas like when they did like 50 episodes for the online predator concept. Sometimes I just get board with the show.
