The cast and crew were only able to film 8 episodes of season 7 prior to the writers strike. Because of this, the debut for season 7 was delayed one full year. It will return in January 2009 with a full 24-episode season

The only thing right now that could hinder that would be a SAG (actors) strike on June 30th, which is when their contract with the studios expires. I highly doubt they can finish shooting the remainder of the season and film the 2 hour movie before then. IMO, I think it's extremely doubtful the actors will strike. The U.S. economy is suffering right now and the TV/entertainment industry is still trying to get viewers back.

Plus by the end of June they should have a good 14-15 episodes shot and unless the strike, if there is one, lasts longer then the writer strike, than we will have no issues in getting the next season aired on time. The movie may be a different story though.
