In Germany this episode is known as, Silence is Gold translated. But the Term 'Reden ist Silber, Schweigen
ist Gold' (Talking is Silver, Silence is Gold) is a german proverb,
roughly translated to 'A shut mouth catches no flies;. (edit) This is the third episode that Stephen Collins (Eric Camden) has directed for the series. The last episode he directed was in the 3rd season episode, Paranoia. He was supposed to to direct an episode in the 5th season but was prevented by scheduling conflicts. (edit) Happy, the dogs picture in the opening credits changed to her in a more recent episode (Hot Pants), wearing a birthday hat at Sam and David's birthday party. (edit)

Matt: (after Ruthie finds out that Matt got married). Could you Ruthie? Could you keep it a secret that you know we got married last night? Could you just forget and never say anything? I mean, because that's a terribly big secret for a little girl to keep for the rest of her life and I don't even know if I should ask you.
Ruthie: You can ask me anything, horse or no horse. You're my brother and this is a good secret, the best secret I've ever heard. And we both know I know them all. I can do it. As God as my witness, I will never, ever tell this secret to anyone, cause I owe it to you for being my big brother for 11 years. I love you. I respect you. You have my word of honor. This stays with me. (edit) Annie: You don't really think they did get married last night and maybe they're just telling us they're engaged to kind of get us use to the idea?
Eric: It's impossible. You know, I like that. I like that idea a lot. So I'm going with married. They're already married. (edit) Sarah: Ever been to a Jewish wedding?
Matt: Sarah's father's a rabbi.
Eric: Life's funny, isn't it. Matt's marrying a Jewish girl. Who would've thought? (edit) Lucy: So, when's the big day?
Matt: We were thinking really soon.
Sarah: May-June.
Mary: This May-June?
Matt: Or maybe sooner. (edit) Simon: (about Matt's engagement) This makes what I've done all year look sane.
Mary: I wonder if she knows the history of engagements in this family? (edit)

At the end of the episode while Ruthie is talking to Matt she says the nine-years of medical school that Matt and Sarah will be away from home, it would really only be five additional years as four years is counted as the years of pre-med.
(edit)
It was said in this episode that the only time Matt had stayed out all night was in "Breaking up is Hard to Do", when he went to Philadelphia after Heather. Although, in "Family Secrets" he stayed out all night without calling when he was at Renee's house.
