The first season's final episode is an exciting one! While in town for a friend's funeral, Jessica stumbles onto yet another murder scene. In this case, the victim is a real jerk, and as Jessica searches for clues to the killer's identity, she becomes increasingly puzzled by where these clues take her. The best part about this episode, though, is that it is here that William Windom makes his first appearance on the show in the role of Sam Breen, who turns out to be one of multiple people involved in the murder. (Apparently, just following the events laid out in this episode, Sam Breen cut a deal with the prosecutor, turned on his co-conspirators, and went into witness protection, adopting the name Seth Hazlitt.) It was exciting to see him on the show as someone else, with the knowledge that not long after he'd be a regular on the show. And even better is the ending, where Sam and his pals confess, and then Sam takes Jessica by the arm and escorts her out of the barn, presumably to call the sheriff.
