Quauntum Leap was at its best when it used the science fiction storyline to dive into social commentary and tackle issues like human rights and dignity. This is probably one of the best examples of this.
Whenever Sam leaps into a woman, as in this episode, issues of sexual and gender identity are often a part of the episode, and this one is no different. Sam has to deal with being a housewife, with a husband that is belittling and insecure about what women's liberation will mean for him. He has to deal with a rebellious daughter whose role model is a feminist that is willing to use violence and (making matters more complicated) he must also give a female employee the confidence she needs to earn her promotion. This episode bodly tackles sexism, gender roles, the traditional family, liberation movements, the Equal Rights Amendment and universal health insurance. A classic episode.
