(Maynard talks about his hobbies outside of music)
Maynard: I'm living my life. Trying to learn how to cook better and bake better and read some books. (edit) Maynard: I draw on spirituality. I don’t draw on The Bible for much of anything. (edit) (Maynard describes the meaning of Thirteenth Step)
Maynard: It’s kind of a puzzle. I can’t really give away the farm on that one. That’s meant for people to kind of decipher for themselves. (edit) Maynard: I always knew that I wanted to be an artist. I never even thought about it. It was always there in the back of my head. We had those forms in school, just stupid forms you had to fill out where they asked you all sorts of things. For example, what you want to be when you grow up. There were a lot of choices to make and I always picked artist. I never once picked doctor, lawyer, firemen or something like that. It was always artist. I always knew that I wanted to be creative, that I wanted to create something. Even if I didn't know what when I was a child. (edit) (talking about the background of Mer Des Noms)
Maynard: Many of the song titles on Mer des Noms (French for "Sea of Names") are actually names of real or mythological people. A lot of the names of the songs are actually people I do know in real life and some elements of their lives seem to be the same as elements in the lives or stories of mythological figures. A lot of names in America and Europe have their roots in Latin and Greek words. A lot of them go back to archetypes and their stories. (edit)
