Born and raised in San Diego, California, Adam spent his teen years surfing. When it became clear that there was more to his ambition than a career as a professional surfer, he decided to go to Hollywood and turn a long-time desire to act into reality. Adam moved to Hollywood in January 1999. A year to the day after his arrival in Hollywood, came the Big Kahuna--the call that he had been cast in "Growing Up Brady" as the young Barry Williams. He later earned some cult fans for his short-lived role as David on the WB drama "Gilmore Girls," then shot to fame with his role as the geeky, yet loveable Seth on Fox's "The O.C."
Adam's favorite holiday is Halloween.

Adam: I love movie-making. I'm interested in writing and directing, and I've dabbled, but I haven't done anything I care to brag about. Yet.
(edit)
Adam: I'd like to write a little bit. If I could trade being an actor for a writer, I'd rather be a writer. But I don't know if I'm I'm any good at it.
(edit)
Adam: (looking back on his “OC” days) I sort of consider it as my college. I was there four years and I made friends that I will have forever. No matter what happens in my life, at least career-wise--highs and lows--I still don’t think that I’ll ever go through a change as drastic in my life as I did that first year of the show. And it’s nice to have a group of people who I’ll always know who did the same exact thing that I did at the same exact time.
(edit)
Adam: (on going on location to film movies) I actually enjoy filming on location. I love the idea of going somewhere else for three months and living there and making your hotel room your home and immersing yourself in a different city. That’s very therapeutic for me.
(edit)
Adam: (on avoiding the pit falls of Hollywood) I like to have my fun too, but I also know what situations to avoid. For instance, you’re not going to see me leaving the latest trendy nightclub with Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton. But don’t think I don’t know how to enjoy myself; I just know how to do it privately.
(edit)
Adam: Compassion and a sense of humor are the most important qualities to me. I never want to date that girl who everyone thinks is a b***h.
(edit)
Adam ... honestly, who cares if you get a good movie or not? I feel like I'm in semi-retirement already a little bit. I'm 27, and I have a house. I've decided that I'm happy with my lot in life.
(edit)
Adam (on what was he like in high school): While I wasn’t a Casanova, I had cute girlfriends. I was all about surfing and pretty much lived at the beach–-I was the "California Guy." I had poor grades and knew only one other Jewish kid. Then I moved to Hollywood and realized that reading and drinking coffee are where its at and that everyone’s Jewish. So I became more nerdy and embraced my neurotic side.
(edit)
Adam (on what he's going to do now that The OC is over): Grow the best beard I can. I’ve had to shave every day for four years, and I’ve never been more excited to not shave–I’ve dreamed about this. Granted, it’ll be a pretty pathetic beard, but I’m going to give it my best shot. Also, I’m going to sleep in, read, see more movies, play more music, walk my dog and write.
(edit)
Adam (whether he will ever do an ensemble TV show again or not): Sure, I would. Although, next time around, I will be thinking a little more about schedule and how it’s going to work and what it means for my days of the week. When you’re going to do something for 1-10 years, it’s something to think about. We’ll see if I’m in a position, when that happens, to factor that in.
(edit)
Adam: I’m a fake intellectual. I’m not that well-read, which I’m insecure about, since I’ve got the intellectual niche.
(edit)
Adam: She's sweeter than any poodle, but she's strong and just won't heel. I do all the work. I'm the disciplinarian.
(edit)
Adam: There's no conversation more boring than talking about what it's really like to live in Newport and how the show compares to the real thing. I just don't care.
(edit)
Adam: Well, I guess most people would only know me from The O.C. I did a few episodes of Gilmore Girls before that. I was also a client on a lot of lawyer shows.
(edit)
Adam: My favorite episodes of The O.C. are the ones where not much happens, where we take it down a notch. But I don't think the audience agrees with me.
(edit)
Adam: Girls always want a hug... I'll be standing at the local mall, and suddenly there will be an assembly line of girls... like I'm Santa.
(edit)
Adam: I like to think I'm steadier on my feet with girls, but other than that, I'm similar to Seth. We're into the same things, and we even dress alike. Sometimes the cast asks if I'm in costume when we're rehearsing.
(edit)
Adam: I love surfing and I've tried to convince Josh into letting Peter and I having a surfing scene in an episode of The O.C..
(edit)
Adam: I don't know anyone who's going to see Grind 22 times in the theater. My mom. Some kid who has short-term memory loss and forgot that he's seen it.
(edit)
Adam: I always walked by [the VHS box] on the shelf and thought [of leads Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe], those kids have it made. At the time, I thought the movie was very cool, but it was more their lives that I wanted. And, like everyone, I was in love with Jennifer Love Hewitt.
(edit)
Adam: There's a scene me and Ben did where we're locked in the poolhouse and I get claustrophobic. And so this girl closes the door on me in the scene, and I actually got hit by the door and it really hurt. So when you see that scene in an upcoming episode, you should know it's for real.
(edit)
Adam: I love every emo bands and other types of music. It depends, like I love Death Cab and Phantom Planet and Coldplay.
(edit)
Adam: I was reading Entertainment Weekly and Conan O'Brien was talking about his future and he said something like, 'Who knows, maybe in five years I'll be living in a pool house on The O.C.?' And I thought, 'Oh my God, it's pop culture now, it's officially out there.'
(edit)
Adam: I've resisted buying a PlayStation 2 because I'm not going to school, and I'm feeling sort of guilty about it, so I'm trying to read a lot to kind of make up for that. And I just feel, I have too many friends who get one and disappear for three months, 'Sorry man, I got a PlayStation 2, I beat the game finally, and I'm back.'
(edit)
Adam: Halloween because it's the start of all the holidays. My favorite three months are October to December. (On his favorite holiday.)
(edit)
Adam: I just graduated from high school, and I was working at Blockbuster. Not only did I get into movies while I was there, but I was putting away boxes and looking at the kids on the covers. It felt like windows into these seemingly perfect lives.
(edit)
Adam: I feel like Hollywood is a big high school again. Seriously, Ashton Kutcher is the prom king.
