LATEST NEWS!

Outspoken liberal comedian will throw hat into political ring.

Al Franken--comedian, radio show host...and senator?

Franken will run for state Senate of Minnesota in 2008, according to the Associated Press. Franken himself has not made any official announcement yet--the news was leaked by an anonymous Democratic Party official.

Franken has made no secret of his political ambitions. Earlier this week, as announced he would quit as host of his Air America radio show, he told listeners he would soon reach a decision about whether to run.

A spokesperson for Franken's political action committee declined to comment on the announcement. Minnesota's Republican Party today issued a statement saying "Minnesotans will reject Franken's divisive, scorched earth attacks."

Franken came to fame in the 1970s on NBC's Saturday Night Live.

Isn't Minnesota the state that voted former wrestler Jesse Ventura for Governor about 10 years ago? If they can vote for someone like him, I can see them electing a former SNLer (and Minnesota-bred) Al Franken...

We need less commedians/actors/etc getting into politics, in my opinion, regardless of political ideology. Sadly, the opposite seems to be the trend.

Sadly, I live in Minnesota (transplant) and am sorry to say that AL Franken will more than likely win his seat. In the 4 years I have lived here, I realize Minnesota has a reputation for voting in the odd, unqualified, and worst choices possible.

I live in Minnesota but i will reluctantly vote for him as I am liberal. but the truth is we need to elect independents and Greens because they are the ones who aren't controlled by Lobbyists.

As liberal as I am and as much as I like Al Franken, I would have to agree in thinking that he may not be the best senator.
