Ally Sheedy on Kyle, Steven Weber on Brothers, Malcolm in the Minds, Kumar in da House, everyone on 30 Rock.
Television sets will be packed with familiar faces during the next few months, as several well-known actors and actresses have signed on for regular roles, multi-episode arcs, and guest appearances on some of TV's biggest shows.
One of Hollywood's founding members of the Brat Pack--the actors featured in 1980s teen-happy films from John Hughes and others--will now be playing a mom in one of cable's most popular teen-oriented shows. Ally Sheedy (The Breakfast Club, Short Circuit) has signed on for the final three episodes of this season of Kyle XY, says TVGuide.com. She'll reportedly play the mother of Jessi XX.
Steven Weber of Wings and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip fame will be joining the strong cast of Brothers & Sisters, reports TVGuide.com. Weber will play a love interest for one of the show's main characters--no spoilers here--and comes in as a financial advisor to the Walker family.
Paging Dr. Penn--E! Online is reporting that Kal Penn (Kumar of Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle and the mute henchman in Superman Returns) has signed on as a House regular. Penn was previously on the show as a recurring character.
Also joining the medical drama are the fetching Olivia Wilde (The Black Donnellys, The O.C.) and Peter Jacobsen (The Starter Wife).
Frankie Muniz, Malcolm of Malcolm in the Middle and die-hard Los Angeles Clippers fan, is all grown up with an upcoming guest spot on Criminal Minds. In a late November episode of the crime drama, Muniz will portray a comic book artist who gets involved in...a crime investigation!
In other news, Grey's Anatomy will welcome guest-star extraordinaire Lauren Stamile (Heroes, Crossing Jordan, Criminal Minds, etc.) and 24 enlists the duties of Ever Carradine (Commander in Chief, Couples, the upcoming Women's Murder Club), according to The Hollywood Reporter. Stamile will "play opposite" Dr. McDreamy or whatever he's called nowadays, and Carradine will join the ranks of the FBI.
And if that wasn't enough, the roster of guests expected on 30 Rock should get you through the weekend. According to USA Today, fans of the show will be able to see Friends' David Schwimmer, Jackie Mason, Al Gore, Steve Buscemi, Carrie Fisher, The Sopranos' Edie Falco, Arrested Development's Will Arnett, and Elaine Stritch (reprising her Emmy-winning guest role) on the NBC comedy sometime this season.

Whoa. Sweet news about Penn and Wilde signing on as reguars on House. And I look forward to Ever Carradine on 24. Frankie Muniz on Criminal Minds, though, I hope he pulls a Dawson and steals the show, I'm just worried about seeing him as Malcolm the whole time.
10/09/2007 23:00:26This item should have mentioned How I Met Your Mother which featured Danica McKellar (Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years and Busy Philipps (Audry Lidell on Dawson's Creek) as well as Mandy Moore and Enrique Iglesias on earlier episodes. Tim should have done more research or is just poor work on the part of as CBS publicist.
