An alternate take of Jafar's return was shown in a 2 issue comic book miniseries The Return Of Aladdin.

In this version, Iago remains a servant to Jafar and spends most of the first issue finding a master they can easily manipulate. Rather than it being Abis Mal, the one aiding Jafar is an entertainer named Isabella (dead ringer for Jafar, albeit in green clothing). (edit) Due to a breach in contract, Robin Williams did not return to voice Genie. Instead, Disney hired Dan Castenaletta (Homer Simpson) to do the voice for this movie (and later the series). (edit) Jafar may be dead, but you'll see how he lives his dead life in a Disney's Hercules episode called "Hercules And The Arabian Night". (edit) This is the 1st appearance of Abis Mal. (edit)

Abis Mal: You...look familiar.
Gangsters: It's Aladdin!
Abis Mal: I knew that! (edit) Aladdin: You'd be suprised of what you can live through. (edit) Aladdin: So, Genie, how does it feel to be free?
Genie: Seriously, (streches out in joy) LOVE IT! (a few bones crack in his back) OK. Maybe my powers aren't what they used to be. Maybe semi-all phenominal. But don't take me short. I may be free but I still have some magic in me. I can do this!
(magicaly produced a flower - that sucks off his face! He quicly retrieves it.) I'd hate to face out in front of you guys. Give me another chance! (edit) Aladdin: Genie!
Jasmine: You came back!
Genie: Oh! Ah! Oh! WATCH THE SUNBURN! (the two jump back startled) Ha! Kidding! Did you miss me? Be honest! Take care of these my good mammal. (Abu cheerfuly takes the bags but is weighed down) Careful, they're heavy. Hang on! I've got suvoneer for everybody! (gives Aladdin a Mexican hat; Jasmine something; Abu a cap, flag, and hot dog; and carpet a hawiian girl doll) Oh, she dances.
Aladdin: You saw the who world already?
Genie: (singing) It's a small world after all.
But Agrabah has something no other place in the world has: YOU GUYS! (edit) Iago: He saved my life. It's like I owe him. Nah.
Genie: (as Jiminy Cricket) Just let your conscience be your guide.
Iago: Conscience? Never had one!
(Iago starts to fly away when Genie startles him in a Jack-in-the-Box form; he falls to the ground)
Iago: What are you trying to do? Give me a heart attack?
Genie: (as a doctor) Ah-ha! You do have a heart! (puts an x-ray up to him) Oh, an itty-bitty one, but it's there. (edit) Iago: (in fake weakness) Getting dark. Hold me. (Aladdin tries to grab his tail) I meant gentle-like! (edit) (Iago strains with all his energy to pull the orb trapping Genie and drops it to the floor. It mearly bounces without a crack)
Jasmine: You have to lift it higher!
Iago: (weak and out of breath) Sure, sure. (edit) Iago: The street-rat's living in the palace now. That's it! All reports are in! Life is now officialy unfair! (edit) Jafar: You always were good for a laugh.
Genie: Oh yeah? (immediately begins blasting Jafar and in no time at all he seems to be destroyed) Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho! Who's laughing now?
Jafar: Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! (reappears) I believe it's me! (edit)

In the scene wear Aladdin gave Princeess Jasmine the Diamond flower, she puts it in a vase. Abu tries to take it but takes the white flower. Then it goes back to Aladdin and Jasmine talking; when Jasmine moves to hug Aladdin, both the white flower and the Diamond Flower (both Aladdin gave to her) are still in the vase. Then it goes gone then back to Abu reaching for the Diamond flower as it is back in the vase. (edit) The Genie has his golden handcuffs on his arms throughout the rest of the episodes, even though they disappeared in the first movie. (edit) Aladdin was wearing his white-robe outfit during the whole dinner and Iago shpiel as well as the 'Forget About Love' song. However, he SOMEHOW switches back to his 'street-rat' garbs right after we see Abis Mal sneaking over the wall and such. (This probably has to do with the first nitpick in this list ( that the animation for RoJ was done in thirds) and this is obiviously a 'switch-over' so to speak.) (edit) There were a bunch of things wrong with the first goof.
A. Well think about it, Jasmine had to have been kidnaped somehow, and the guard didn't notice so it's possible it wasn't noticed that the Saltan ever left.
B. If it was never explained how Jasmine was kidnapped it could mean Jafar used his power to change into the Salton and then fake the murder scene.
C: He could have used his power to hypnotise the guards.
D: Even if the guards knew the Salton never came back they probolly would take any thing the Princess says seriously because they all think Jafar's gone for good and that the Genie's good so they would take Jasmines word for it.
E: Maybe they think that the genie's evil and helped Aladdin.
F: Or maybe it's like it doesn't need to be explained just like Jasmine's kidnap wasn't explained.
Is this enough to convince you that the person who wrote the first goof didn't think about all the possibilitys. Write in the goofs and nitpicks and say what you think about this comment. (edit) This movie was done by the same animators, writers, etc who did the Aladdin TV show, and it becomes especially apparent if you watch the show and then watch the movie. The same music is used for both. An even worse job handled in the film is the animation; it was done in thirds; each 1/3 handled by a different animation house(one from Austrailia, one from Japan, etc...). Once Abis-Mal climbs over the wall, the drawing style changes; once Aladdin is framed the style changes once more. It's painfully obvious. Oi.

Fortunately(or unfortunately depending on how you look at it), this was the movie that started the whole direct-to-video sequel market. Since Disney now had more confidence direct-to-video things could sell, they did a better animation job on all future movies; including the third Aladdin film. If that one was done in halfsies, I can't really tell. (edit) There is one giant plothole in this film. Jafar, in his scheme to get Al dead without actually having to do it himself, plans to frame Aladdin. So he sends him and Sultan out on a little excursion, and meanwhile rips up a turban and plants it as "evidence" that Sultan was murdered by Al. When Al comes back, he's accused of murder, and that makes sense, right?
WRONG...this really made no sense and shouldn't have really worked. Everybody there saw Sultan and Aladdin leave. He couldn't be killed in that building if he wasn't present to have it done to him. If Aladdin comes back sans Sultan, and you're still assuming he did it, that wouldn't mean he killed him in the palace, it would mean he did it OUT THERE. Making the "turban evidence" a total obvious fraud. Sloppy... (edit)
