QUOTES

  • Alec: (On why he doesn't do cover stories like he once did) I got older. The industry now-and it's been this way for a while- is largely about young people, sometimes very young people. Kids in movies have all kinds of marketing potential. Then it's the actors of the Zach Braff/Jessica Alba stripe, the 30-and-under people. But if you look at the number of films that star people over 40, there seem to be a lot less of them now. So the issue is competing to get good roles in these things. edit »
  • Alec: (On the writer's strike in 2007) I can't even describe to you how painful it's been. My friends are all out of work. They're miserable. They're really unhappy. edit »
  • Alec: (On whether he misses making movies full-time) I don't. Making movies is a little too self-conscious. [On the show] we do the job, we have fun, we work hard and we work fast, but nobody believes we're the London Symphany Orchestra. When I've done films lately, the amount of self-importance and anxiety that accompanies film-making has become a little too much for me. When you're with great people, moviemaking is great. But they aren't many great people out there. And the rest of it is tiresome. edit »
  • Alec: [Gossip is] probably the thing that makes me the most sad... Even educated people read Gawker and Defamer and all this other crap, and it's a world of people who have small lives, and their whole thing is to have this ledge that they can spit down on people from. edit »
  • Alec: (On his show 30 Rock) The response to the show has been good. People think it's good and I agree with them. I think Tina [Fey] is the funniest woman I've ever met. Well it's a close tie between her and Paula Pell [a Saturday Night Live writer-actress who's also appeared on the show]. edit »
  • Alec: (On his movie The Cooler) This has one of those unusual scripts where you get to what I call the 'kill page.' We shouldn't reveal this but, there's a critical moment, and this moment is comparable to when you walk into the kindergarten bus with a flamethrower and kill everybody, I called my agent. I said, 'I'm not doing this movie.' There are a half dozen things I won't do in a movie. This horrible thing happens. He says 'Read the next page.' edit »
  • Alec: I'm starting to feel I have to cure my addiction to Hollywood money, because while it's delightful, it's also insidious. edit »
  • Alec: Acting in the theatre is fun, acting in film is work. edit »
  • Alec: (On considering online dating) I'm thinking about it. I could post my picture and say, 'People tell me I look like Alec Baldwin.' They'll go, 'Oh, I hate him,' or 'Who the hell is he?' edit »
  • Alec: I was in love when I was married to Kim Basinger, I'm not ashamed to say. I used to wake up in the morning and just look at her and say 'What do you want for breakfast, baby? Special K with blueberries? Let me go get some.' edit »
  • Alec: One day you're filling out applications to be a waiter, and the next you're nominated for an Oscar. This business is crazy. edit »
  • Alec: When you talk about private contractors, I've always been someone who felt that defense fraud was tantamount to treason. edit »
  • Alec: I feel like I am two different people. I have interest in acting, and I have a lot of political interests that I'd like to pursue. edit »
  • Alec: I was very competitive with my brothers when I was younger. Now we are all in completely different worlds. edit »
  • Alec: Great acting can be almost a psychotic mix of self-consciousness and unselfconsciousness. edit »
