Alex: (When asked to describe Moonlight in five words) Dark, funny, sexy, intriguing and a guilty pleasure. (edit)
Alex: (On being considered for the role of James Bond in "Casino Royale") The reality is I may not get the role, which is the conundrum for all actors, but at the end of the day, I'm incredibly grateful just to be considered. (edit)
Alex: I'm an actor - there's nothing glamorous about acting until you get to the f… you money and then it all turns to sh** anyway. (edit)
Alex: Losing my anonymity in this world I think is something that I find terrifying. (edit)
(About other peoples' reactions to his doing his own stunts)
Alex: They'll only drop me a certain amount of stories, and I want to go from the top. (Laughing) They're like 'Dude, you can't. If you die, we don't have a show.' (edit)
Alex: (On doing his own stunts) I really feel like I'm participating in life when I'm strapped into a harness and hanging precariously above the ground. (edit)
Alex: (About his girlfriend, Holly Valance) She's a sex symbol. (edit)
Alex: I write music just for me. I'm certainly not good enough to do it on any kind of a level but I enjoy that time because it's quiet. (edit)
Alex: I'm an actor - there's nothing glamorous about acting until you get to the f... you money. (edit)
Alex: I do not think I'm a great talent. I think I'm a medium talent, but I think I understand the business and enjoy the business. (edit)
Alex: (About his time) Time is the thing. A show like this pulls all your time away from you. Usually I'll get home from work on a Saturday about 10am (after doing night shooting) and I'll sleep until Saturday afternoon. Saturday night and Sunday I'm usually feeling wiped out and I've not seen Holly all week. It's a pretty full-on life, but what do you do? I love my work and there are sacrifices. (edit)
Alex: I do have a stunt double because there are certain things that they won’t let me do. Like they won’t set fire to me. They won’t like let me jump off a 20 story building. There are certain big stunts that it’s just impossible to get insurance to let me do, but for the most part I’d say I do probably 75% of my stuff.I have my own harnesses and my own pads and back protectors. I’m trained in stunt work, I really love it too. The other thing is, you don’t have to shoot around the stunt double’s face, you can just shoot me doing my thing. (edit)
Alex: (His favorite thing about his character Mick in Moonlight) My favorite thing about him I think is his ability to overcome extreme drama and duress and not lose sight of the lighter side of life, which essentially stems back to the humanity that he clings to, which is fundamentally extended in his heart. So I think without sounding sanctimonious or sentimental, my favorite thing about this character is his heart. (edit)
Alex: (On being recognized) It's nice having your work recognized but having people follow you around is kinda weird. (edit)
Alex: There were times I was thinking, 'What am I doing, this is crazy'. I was scared because I had no money and no ticket home. That is the time when everyone else packs up and leaves. But I remembered everything my grandfather taught me about the work ethic before he died. He was brought up out in the bush and his advice was 'put your head down and keep working, son, and you'll get what's coming to you'. You just push through. (edit)
Alex: (About volunteering for a Toys for Tots campaign) I really enjoy doing charity, for a good cause, it’s like the least I can do, I really enjoy that stuff. I enjoy giving back. (edit)
(About all the recasts on the series Moonlight)
Alex: I'm waiting to get the chop as well. Who knows? I still am. Every time Joel (Silver, the executive producer) is on set, I'm like, 'Oh, geez.' I'm expecting the friendly pat on the bum out the back door. 'Sorry son, it's your last show.' (edit)
Alex: A pretty hard transition, yeah. I'd been coming over to L.A. for a while, five or six years for auditions and meetings so I knew my way around but to actually shift over here, it took me a good twelve months to get used to how much time I had to spend in my car, how far I had to go for a coffee, where to get my bread and milk. (edit)
Alex: I like playing the villain. (edit)
Alex: My trumpeting sounds like a goose farting in the fog. (edit)
Alex: I am a big fan of vampires. I've always been obsessed with the genre, and the beautiful romanticism and erotic kind of nature of the immortal being, the undead who lives on human blood. (edit)
Alex: (On why do Australian and British actors come to America for acting work) The mecca of filmmaking in the world just so happens to be in America. It's quite simply a case of us just going where the work is. (edit)
Alex: I don't know what I'm really good at. I'm really good at sittin' by the pool. I have to work at that. I'm really bad at auditioning. (edit)
(About biting women on the neck)
Alex: I like it very much. My girlfriend really enjoys it too; until she doesn't and then she slaps me and that's the end of that. (edit)
Alex: (About Mick on Moonlight) If he gets excited, for better or worse, he can vamp out a little bit.If you do have vampires about you in this modern day amongst you, amongst us all, they’re going through transformation publicly, they kind of have to keep it contained and that’s another layer of vulnerability for this guy. He can’t expose himself of course. Only thing I can say is that the private investigative element is that he, because of his special abilities, because he has superhuman powers, vampire kind of powers, he’s able to take on cases that perhaps other people wouldn’t. He’s able to pursue cases that may be unpursuable. (edit)
Alex: I’m a big Anne Rice fan. We’re on CBS network TV and there’s only so much we can show and only so much we can do in front of the cameras. We can incorporate anything emotionally behind the characters and how they work. I don’t think the world of Moonlight is quite as erotic as the world of Anne Rice, but the levels of mysticism and the depth of character and the romanticism in her books is definitely there. All of those things are especially present in my character. (edit)
Alex: (About his father) I'm the son of an everyman. My father is a teacher. He teaches physics at a boys' school in Sydney. (edit)
(About describing his character Kevin Hiatt off The Shield)
Alex: Kevin Hiatt is the new "head's up" on the Strike Team. They've brought him in to lead the Strike Team and potentially take Vic Mackey's place. They've been talking about Vic moving into retirement. They've also been talking about Vic behaving himself and not moving into retirement, and so it's all kind of ambiguous at the moment. And they haven't released that much information as to how well behaved my character is either. But he's certainly… He's come from INS and he's done four years on the border and he's done some gang work as well. But he's pretty street savvy and he's pretty good with his weapon and good with his hands. So we think there may be a little more to it than that. (edit)
Alex: It's going good. It's a really scary transition. I've never worked on something like this. It's tough! It's like there's film acting, there's TV acting and then there's The Shield . That's kind of how I describe it. (edit)
