CBS asks for four more scripts of its supernatural crime drama; full season order coming next?

CBS obviously knows when it doesn't want to keep a show around any longer... just ask the crew that worked on Viva Laughlin. The singing-and-dancing drama was canceled today, only four days after it debuted.

With that information in mind, fans of Moonlight should be doing cartwheels. E! Online is reporting that CBS has ordered four more scripts of the new drama, a good sign that the show has performed up to CBS's standards. The next step for more Moonlight would be a full-season order.

This year, however, script orders may be more a preventive measure than a sign of a full-season pickup. A looming Hollywood writers' strike set for November has executives scrambling to fill up blank pages and stock up on scripts.

Moonlight stars Alex O'Loughlin as Mick St. John, a private investigator in Los Angeles who also happens to be a vampire. In addition to checking out cases (some of which involve other bloodsuckers), Mick must also deal with his romantic complications courtesy of a news reporter (Sophia Myles) and the one who made him undead (Shannon Sossamon).

Other shows that have been asked for more scripts include NBC's Bionic Woman, Life, Journeyman, and Chuck, CBS's Cane, and The CW's Aliens in America. Interestingly enough, none of those shows have received a full-season order yet.

Why is there even a question of renewing Moonlight?
The fans have really done the best promoting of the show with the blood drive, oh yea did I mention the Peoples Choice Award. Maybe CBS should promote more for show that is different, than all the reality garbage, I deal with realty all day, I like watching something totally unreal. Come on CBS give us another season of Moonlight.

I LOVE this show. Besides Supernatural (the CW), Moonlight is my favorite show. It's very well written and the actors are talented. Please, please, don't cancel this show for several seasons at least! Is is awesome, and I am thoroughly anticipating the next episode!

A true fan, "Moonlight" is without a doubt the best show on TV. I really love the excellent interactions between characters and scenes. The dark and mysterious combined with the sensuous feel of the show leaves me breathless and wanting more. With the gorgeous and sexy Alec Lougholin it is no wonder. Moonlight definitely needs to continue an entire season with more to come.

I love Moonlighting also, the fire between Mick and Beth is sooooooooooo good. They need to act on it there needs to be romance and action round up in one. CBS needs to keep all these good shows going, it seems like every time you find a show you get into and like the networks decide to cancel them, and bring something on that is not so worthy to tune into. I can't wait to see how you guys write these two out, just so it's not separate. That Mick knows he knows how to jump start the heart beat, God knew what he was doing when he creating this man.

I have to say that I have enjoyed the show so far. It is a little too reminiscent of Angel, but still pretty good. The only thing that irks me is some of the terribly low budget shooting. There was a scene where they were driving in a car and it looked like they used film from the 80's on a blue screen to make it look like the car was moving. Is it that expensive to shoot in a moving vehicle? For Christ's sake, their hair wasn't even blowing and they were riding in a convertible.

i love love love moonlight! Alex O'Loughlin is beyond hot. however, i'm a little concerned that the show is moving away from romance between mick and beth. and beth is downright getting on my nerves with that running back to her stupid boyfriend every time she has a chance with mick. why would you go back to that guy when you have mick st. john right in front of you?! And Coraline is ruining things too, i think her character needs to be relegated to recurring.

Well CBS better keep this show on the air, and for more than one season!! It´s good entertainment, we´re watching in Venezuela! If it`s crossed the ocean it must be good!! I look forward to watching every new episode on Warner Channel every wednesday night....Please keep the episodes coming.

I also love this show and wait for it every week. I'd like to see more of Jason Dohring's character. He is comfortable in his own skin as a vampire and is a great counter-point to Mick who seems only resigned to it. I like that he is older and acts as a sort of mentor to Mick. I like the romantic tension between Mick and Beth and wish this would be explored more. I like that she is the agressor and he is reluctant. Those are the things that make this show work and I hope the writers/producers don't lose sight of that.

I love the show!!! The past couple of Friday's I have been very dissapointed because the show was not on. I look forward to seeing it all week. Please keep this show on. It is 1 of only 2 shows I enjoy & look forward to. It's a wonderful story.

I agree....I need to see Mic and Beth make a stab at their relationship......I think Coraline just messes things up! I feel sad for Beth..I feel like she was lead on!

I love this show since the beggining until Shannon Sossamon (Coraline)came out because she ruins the plot. I want the show to keep on going but to stop bringing the old history back. I want to see mick and beth make their love work.

I absolutely love Alex and the whole crew on Moonlight. I cant wait until Friday night to spend an hour with Alex. I have always had a vampire thing but WOW, this show makes me REALLY have a thing for vamps. I so hope that Moonlight stays around for awhile, unlike so many of the good shows that they end up canceling.

now that is a great idea!! I hadn't even thought of that a crossover I thought about how weird(and sad) it would have been for them to do a CSI ghost whisperer crossover when I thought Sara was going to die, but this never crossed my mind hmmmm people talking to the dead mixed with the undead could be interesting...

Another obsessed fan here....begging and pleading with CBS to give Moonlight a full season, with more to follow. This show is terrific...love the characters and the theme of modern-day vamps in LA. I would be heartbroken if this show gets canceled prematurely, and obviously there is quite a fanbase building. CBS, are you listening???

CBS needs to think smart about Moonlight. It is the best "new" show on TV right now. They have only ordered four scripts - what a drag! I don't care what the critics say - in fact I want their jobs so I can get paid for being wrong! I can't believe the chemistry between Mick & Beth but even more than that, how much my feelings have changed about vampires! There aren't too many shows that I "make" time to see but Moonlight is the one! It needs to go on and on and on as the storyline is so diverse and intelligent, but not to a point where you feel overwhelmed. Sexy guy, Alex and Beth is just plain wonderful. Please CBS, keep this series going. It is unbelieveable and one of the most entertaining shows I have seen in years.

I hope the show gets picked up of a whole season. I love the show and the characters in it. I like the revamped vampire myth which allows Mick to go out in the daylight even tho in weakens him. The chemistry between Mick and Beth is wonderful. I like that she is the strong woman and in some respect he is a delicate flower(quote from the show). I thought the show was going to be cheesy were Mick talks to himself but I love it. I wouldn't change a thing.

Moonlight is sexy, romantic, funny, heartbreaking, and currently the best thing I've seen on tv in a long while; every episode just seems to get better. CBS needs to push this show more actively--they'd have a hit on their hands.

I absolutely love this show. I've actually watched the episodes over again on DVR. The nuanced relationship blossoming between Mick and Beth keeps me watching -- along with some fun dialog and beautiful LA photography. The last scene when Beth kissed Mick was priceless! I hope CBS picks it up for the whole season, 'cause I'm totally hooked.

I so hope this show lasts a good while. It's the first Vampire show I could really er, sink my teeth into in such a long time. Yay CBS for bringing us another compelling Vampire Series. The last good one in my opinion (not including Blood Ties) was CBS as well, with Forever Knight. On Friday night now, instead of nothing being on, there's something to really look forward to!

This show is like crack to me. I haven't really felt this way about a show in a while.

While I enjoy sci-fi and other supernaturally-themed shows, I think one aspect of Moonlight that really appeals to me is the examination of the characters and their relationships. This just feels more personal than your standard "monster of the week" storyline. But Moonlight has a little bit of everything...a dash of crime procedural, supernatural, and a bit of romance every week. There's a lot that can be done with the vampire community that has started to be revealed in the show.

I really hope Moonlight does get a full-season pick up soon...otherwise, I might have to start smoking or something. :-D

saw the 1st couple of episodes just 2 give it a chance, and its not that 'great' as some people r saying. does no1 c thats its Angel witihout David! 24 is great and i wouldn't put this in the same sentence, at best this show is just average!

Love it. CBS-Keep it coming. Great interactions between the actors and the scenes, which are often dark and mysterious, add to the unique and sensuous "feel" of the show. I really enjoy watching Alex’s face in scenes. Besides being drop dead gorgeous, his eyes, his hint of a smile, just add to the character and how the character is starting to trust a human for the first time. Sophia’s character is equally as responsive. I love this show and am glad to hear it’s getting 4 more episodes. Let’s go for an entire season. And, next as well.
