Moonlighters form bloody campaign
By Tim Surette - TV.comSave-the-show initiative calls on fans of the vampire-centric CBS drama to donate blood.
Its official: These save-the-show campaigns are getting a little out of hand. What worked with Jericho (at least temporarily) was a miracle--fans sent in tons (literally) of nuts to CBS, and the execs reversed a decision to cancel the show.
Soon, other campaigns followed. Light bulbs and mini-footballs for Friday Night Lights. Mars bars for Veronica Mars. Hair clippings for Cavemen. Rice-a-Roni for Journeyman.
Now another campaign has begun asking fans of the show to literally give up a piece of themselves. The rabid fans of Moonlight, a CBS drama about a vampire who works as a private investigator, are asking for help to ensure a second season by donating what vampires love best--blood.
While bags and bags of blood being dumped on CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler's desk would probably be fairly effective, that won't be the case. The initiative is being spearheaded by fans in conjunction with the Red Cross, making it a worthy cause.
Details are up at activist site YouChoose.net, where so far more than 3,000 fans have vowed to pledge support, more than 260 have promised to donate blood, and a few dozen have committed to pledging funds to the Red Cross.
Moonlight star Alex O'Loughlin was so impressed with the campaign, he has offered his services to become a spokesperson for the Red Cross, says The Hollywood Reporter. An official announcement is expected next week.
Of course in Jericho's case, the show had already been canceled. Moonlight, on the other hand, is still on the air and could very well be back for a second season, bloodshed or no bloodshed.
