This prompts him to put his foot down and forbids her to volunteer any more, which doesn't go over very well. Edith: Nothin'.
Archie: Oh, nothin'! And that's exactly what's it worth, nothin'. Because if it was worth somethin', they'd pay you somethin'. Now case closed, Edith!
Edith: I ain't gettin' paid nothin' because I'm a volunteer.
Archie: Well, will you kindly volunteer to get dinner on that table?
Edith: No! I ain't gettin' dinner on the table until you take that back!
Archie: Take what back?
Edith: (in tears) What you said about my work being nothin'. It's helping people and I think people helping people is important!
Archie: Look at the way it's got you here. You're starting to cry, there. Now don't do that, Edith. You know I can't take that... I ain't gonna take it! I'm gonna get on the blower here and call that Reverend Fletcher!
Edith: Felcher!
Archie: Whatever! And I'm gonna tell him that night just fell on one of his Sunshine Girls!
Edith: No, no, please don't do that!
Archie: Well, if you don't want me to talk to him, then you talk to him yourself!
Edith: No, I won't!
Archie: Edith, that was an order!
Edith: I ain't takin' no orders!
Archie: You ain't what?!
Edith: I ain't takin' no orders. I can be a Sunshine Lady if I want to be! And I want to be! AND I AM!
Archie: You whip that phone out of my hand and smash it down like that? You are in trouble, Edith. You are in big trouble!
Edith: No, you are! Because I ain't getting your dinner on the table until you take back what you said!
Archie: Well, I ain't takin' back nothin'! And let me tell you somethin', what I say goes! And you don't got to get no dinner on the table for me 'cause I'm goin' down to Kelsey's!
Edith: Oh no, you aren't! You ain't gonna slam this door in my face because this time it's going to be *your* face! AND I'M GOING TO BE THE SLAMMER!
Edith: (returning from the Stivics) Gloria wants a loaf of bread.
Mike: I can get it, Ma.
Edith: I'll get it.
Archie: I could sure go for a cold beer.
Edith: Then go for it!
Archie: Ain't you gonna ask me how was my day?
Edith: No.
Archie: Well, it was lousy.
