Archie is furious with his houseguest, Cousin Oscar. It seems when they were kids, Oscar bullied Archie and now Oscar is taking full advantage of his visit at the Bunkers. Archie wants to throw him out, but Oscar makes an exit of his own when he turns up dead. This leaves Archie left with the funeral arrangements which drives him up the wall after looking over the costs. Add a recap »

  • Archie seems to have mellowed a bit regarding the Jefferson family being that Louise comes for the wake, bringing the Bunkers a cake. However, Archie still feels uncomfortable about what his family and friends will think about Louise, prompting the classic line, "Edith try and get an apron around her, maybe they'll think she's the maid". edit »
  • It was mentioned that Archie has a sister, Elmer, and a brother, Phil. First of all in other episodes Archie has no sister and has a brother whose name was Fred, not Phil. edit »
  • Cousin Oscar was mentioned in this episode but never seen. edit »
  • Archie and Edith's famous opening credit piano duet of "Those Were The Days" has been updated. edit »
  • Marks the only ever onscreen appearance by the Rev. Felcher, whose name Archie always pronounces "Fletcher". edit »
  • We don't and never will know how Oscar dies. edit »
  • Peggy Rea, who plays Bertha in this episode, will also play a different character, Martha, in the future episode: "Barney the Gold Digger" in Season 9. She also played Lulu Hogg in the '80s sitcom "The Dukes Of Hazzard". edit »
  • Louise: Tell me, was his [Oscar's] death untimely?
Archie: Yeah, around lunchtime. edit »
  • Archie calls a relative in Cicero, IL to ask for money. At the time Cicero was a city that the Rev. Martin Luther King referred to as one of the most "segregated and intolerent cities north of Mississippi", most likely full of "Archie Bunker types". Ironically, Cicero is now 78% Hispanic. edit »
