Hi all! new to the forum, nice 2 meet you everyone Anyway, something's been bothering me... a couple of things actually, i'm only in the beginning of season 5 so try not to spoil anything please...but these are the things: A. The breakup of Larry & Ally... now what the hell was that? why exactly did he break up with her? just cause he 'thought' he'll fail again in the relationship due to previous failing ones? while she didn't even get the chance to answer his proposal? (cause she was never proposed by him eventually)... that's just...well preposterous! B. The strange disappearance of key characters in the series... for example: Jane.. which had just been hired on the firm at the end of season 4.. AND started having a relationship with Richard.. she just disappeared! wtf? And even worse is Jackson! a lead character for the entire 4th season with a clear romantic thing going on with Ling... and a lawyer at Cash & Fish lawfirm and suddenly.. 'poof?' gone? what's up with that? are we just suppose to accept it...? with no explenation whatsoever? Waiting for your helpful replies... Thanks ahead |

hiya i get what u mean it was stupid da whole larry thing da thing is that was da last episode he had signed up 4 but the writers could of done something alot better that break up was ridicuolous. i thought his colleague could if intervened and helped him a bit by going to ally and talking to her girl to girl. also i was really annoyed coz renee dissapeared shes been in it since season 1 and was allys best friend and marks disappeared. jackson only came in half way through da series tho. and wasnt in da openin credits. da thing is why couldnt da writers make something up by sayin where the caracters had moved on to instead of them just disapearing. theycould of been promoted or something.

You're 100% right! it's annoying the way key characters disappear in this series...Georgia , Whipper.. and I've just noticed about Renee' and Mark... it's really annoying! I mean RENEE, how can you just 'poof' a character like that? suddenly Ally is alone in the apartment and we're suppose to just say ok...? that's some insane management decisions that went on there... The only thing I remember from season 4 is John & Richard saying 'things are gotta change here'.. but still, I could understand if they fired Mark & Jackson and hired the new lawyers.. but just making them disappear? and renee... and Jane? jesus.. if it were just one character I could understand but we're up to 5 or more...sheesh.. |

I agree here. A) The break up of Larry & Ally was lame I thought. It just seemed weird that they didn't communicate at all and then suddenly Larry's gone back to Detroit? B) I've just seen the Season 5 premiere for the first time and I noticed that both Mark and Renee are both absent. It annoys the hell outta me because: 1. They did it before with Georgia (& Whipper); there wasn't even an explanation as to why neither was ever around at Renee's law firm in Season 4 (Georgia was in one episode only) 2. Renee has been there since the first episode; why are we given no explanation as to why she's no longer there? 3. What purpose did Mark ever serve if he's just disappeared from Cage & Fish completely? I mean, what, he 'replaced' Billy in season 3, then dated Cindy and then Elaine, that's all? 4. As above, what purpose did Jackson ever serve if he's just disappeared? There was a nice setup with him and Ling in Season 4 and now he's just gone with no word. (Sidenote: and why is that Richard hires 'rainmakers' but they never actually bring in any major clients?) 5. Although Ling and Nelle are still around, why have their roles been reduced? Tbh, I don't think either have had a really great storyline in a very long time. Ling served most of her purpose in Season 2 IMO and Nelle hasn't done much since breaking up with John. They've had some storylines (e.g. Ling & Jackson) but nothing solid. And I have a few more gripes with Season 4 & 5 but I won't mention them. BTW, I've only seen the first episode of Season 5 so far, so please don't post any spoilers. |

i get what you mean i was so annoyed how hard is a couple of sentances to say where they moved onto i wont spoil anything bt season 5 does get better once you get past people disapearing.

im also in the beginning of season 5 so don't worry ..
But yeah it's all true and I would really like to know what went on in the director's mind when he made all these strange decisions.. it's just too bad! Even when Georgia and Whipper moved to Renee's firm it seemed like something's gonna develop there slowly... they really illustrated the fact that Whipper joined and then when Georgia moved too I started having thoughts about an interesting continuance.. like a major fight between Renee and Richard once Renee's firm starts being perhaps so successful it would become a financial nuisance to Cage & Fish...but well.. as it would seem the whole 'Renee's Firm' thing was just a base for....NOTHING! :/ too bad... |

I know, as if wrting even one sentence about a character is impossible. I'm glad to know that it's going to get better though. However, so far I hate the Glenn thing and I don't particularly like Jenny, Raymond or Coretta all that much. I'd prefer if they'd kept the older characters on instead of giving us 4 people I really don't give a damn about (though I don't mind Coretta coz she was in Season 4 aswell). And yes, nomfan, I agree; there was no point in Renee having her own firm because it went nowhere. |

So I just watched the Season 5 episode "Nine One One", and Ling's gone now too? Just like that, they've written Lucy Liu out of the credits without any explanation at all. I checked Lucy Liu's credits on IMDB and she's going to appear in episode 13 so hopefully we'll get some closure then. I also noticed how half of the credited characters won't even be in the last few episodes.

True, but it makes no sense that just because she's become a judge, that she no longer spends time with her friends. I mean, she was first introduced as being Nelle's friend and now we never see her hanging out at the bar with Nelle. Nor do we ever see her with Richard. I just saw episode 13 (her last appearance) and we didn't get any closure on her character at all. All we were told was that being a judge can be lonely and that she misses the firm. Then she had a little goodbye moment with Richard. I was just expecting more, that's all. She was my fave character on the show. |

Ally and Larry was supposed to marry in "The Wedding" but Robert Downey Junior started drinking again at the end of the fourth season and was fired or something. Lisa Nicole Carson (Reneé) started showing up late for work during season 4. I think it was because she was diagnosed with schizophrenia and she was forced to quit. It's really sad!

...and Lucy Liu (Ling) chose to leave the show so she could pursue a movie career. Look how well that turned out. I heard that if her current show gets axed she will play a LAWYER in Dirty sexy money. Back to square one i guess! |

Wow. I didn't know that - it's quite tragic (in regards to both Lisa & Robert). As for Lucy, she did do pretty well in the movies. Both Charlie's Angels and Kill Bill did well. |

its a shame about what happend to them bt u think da writers would ofdone a better job wiv writin them out tho. da whole jenny and glenn thing was so stupid they left half way through da season wat was da point in them and they got wrote out properly as well they aint been there 2 minutes.

I read somewhere that David E. Kelley decided to write out both Jenny & Glenn because fan response wasn't what they thought it would be and the audience didn't really connect with them. And perhaps they were written out properly since both actors were available to use? With the others (Larry, Ling, Renee, Georgia etc...), they probably weren't given real closure since the show would've had to pay extra to get them to appear again. And since James Marsden and Julianne Nicholson were already contracted to the show, they didn't have to be paid any extra money for their last appearances. Just speculation. Oh, and I'm finally near the end of the show (I'm gonna watch the series finale tonight). I can't wait to see some of the characters return. |

Last episode of season 4 names as "The Wedding" make me feel confusion that there is no wedding at all. While I just start watching Episode1 of season 5, the loss of main characters (especially Renee) and the new lawyers pop in, make me feel lost about the story and lost of interest too. I am wondering should I stop watching season 5 in order to keep the best feeling about the show.. |

He was fired because he got arrested again and was sentenced to 6mths in a rehab clinic. It wasn't to do with drinking though, it was to do with his addiction to cocaine and black tar heroin. I'm still deciding whether i even want to watch the last two episodes of season 4, i love Larry and think he's perfect for Ally so i'm not sure if i want to. (I also want to marry Larry he's so sweet, nice and not to mention incredibly cute) But from what everyone is saying season 5 doesn't sound that great, so i'm might leave it on a happy note i guess. Maybe they should restart the show pick up from season 4 ep21 and just make Ally marry Larry and keep the cast together, though that would be kinda weird how would you explain there ageing. |

It's true, season 5 was a shock at first because of all the missing characters but as someone said, as soon as you get passed it, you realize it's not that bad. There are some good episodes like the final episode, also i liked "Blowin' In The Wind" and that episode about Ling and also that episdoe about the woman who's married to two men, it was good! |

To be honest, I didn't like most of Season 5 because it just seemed to different from what the show was. I didn't exactly love Season 4 either because it moved away from it's roots. If some of you are unsure about Season 5, it's really up to you whether you should watch it or not. Despite not liking it very much, I still think you should give it a go. Personally, I'd find it silly to watch all but 1 season of a tv show because other people didn't like it. You never know until you've seen it yourself. And if you don't watch it, you'll always wonder, "What if?". Besides the series finale is so awesome and true to the series' roots that it makes you forget how bad Season 5 was

Wow, you are the first person online to say didn't love season 4! I agree with you. I do think it was a good season in general but in Ally McBeal it wasn't so great because it was far from the core. I think after Billy had died, the show was different. Ally herself had changed. She hadn't had much hallucinations and lost her dreamy side. |
