American film and TV actress Amanda Peet was born January 11, 1972 in New York City where she also grew up with an older sister. It was clear early on that Peet was born to perform when she jumped onstage during a play when she was just three years old. While studying at the university, she studied drama under renowned acting teacher Uta Hagen. She also did a few off-Broadway plays while in New York.

After her experience in theater, commercial work, and auditions for television shows, she guest-starred on shows like Law & Order and The Single Guy. In 1999, she was cast as Jack Barrett in the WB dramedy Jack & Jill which lasted for two seasons. Amanda appeared in several minor roles in various movies throughout the late '90s before landing her first major role and Hollywood break in the 2000 film The Whole Nine Yards co-starring Matthew Perry and Bruce Willis.

Her memorable performance as a dental hygienist in the comedy hit brought on more movie roles for Peet as she starred in popular films like Whipped (2000), Saving Silverman (2001), Identity (2003), and A Lot Like Love (2005). In 2006, she played Jordan McDeere, the president of the fictional TV network National Broadcasting System, in the NBC drama Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip which ran for one full season.

In 2007, Peet returned to movie work, playing the part of the wife of Zach Braff in the film The Ex. Furthermore, in 2008, she became part of the X-Files saga as she portrayed an FBI agent in the much-criticized The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
