The episode opens on a snowy Christmas Eve night at the North Pole. Mrs. Claus is helping Santa get dressed for his big night. She reminds him that the world is sophisticated now, and people think they have more important things to believe in that Santa. He tells her that's nonsense.

A little boy named Bobby heads for bed Christmas Eve. His parents tell him that the kids who told him that there is no Santa were only teasing. They assure him that there is a Santa and wish him goodnight.

Santa bids his wife farewell and takes off. When he gets to Bobby's house, he can't fit down the chimney, so he comes in through a window. As he walks over to get some cookies, he sets off the alarm. Bobby's parents set off the house alarm, and the police show up. Santa gets arrested, but as he is going, he winks at Bobby. The police throw him into the back of a truck with a bunch of drunk men who are dressed as Santa. Santa tries to make conversation with the police officers, but they shut him down.

Bobby insists that the man his parents had arrested was the real Santa Claus. His mother tries to convince him otherwise, but he doesn't believe her. She puts him to bed, but he looks out his window and sees Santa's sleigh.

The sheriff's deputy tells Santa that the sheriff was brought up in an orphanage, which is why he doesn't like Christmas. The sheriff takes Santa away, and the deputy looks at Santa's fingerprint card. Although he just fingerprinted Santa, there are no fingerprints on the card.

Santa asks the sheriff if he ever let him down, and the sheriff says he wrote a long letter to Santa when he was young. The sheriff says that he never got the one toy he asked for. Santa says sometimes even he makes mistakes, but the sheriff gets mad and shoves him into a cell.

Bobby sneaks out of the house and gets into Santa's sleigh. He goes to the jail to talk to Santa. He ties a rope to the sleigh and ties the other end to the bars on the window. The prisoners escape as the sheriff and his deputy watch. The sheriff hops in his car to chase down the sleigh. Just as the sheriff has almost caught them, the sleigh takes off into the air. The sheriff walks over to a package that dropped off the sleigh. He sees it is addressed to him, and when he opens it, he sees it is the toy he asked for when he was a boy. The deputy drives up behind him.

A group of carolers start singing "Deck the Halls". Much to the deputy's surprise, the sheriff walks over and joins in.
