The episode starts off with Jake and Rose walking together in Central Park. Both are satisfied that they finally get to hang out, without the lies and secrets. However, their peaceful stroll is suddenly interrupted by 88 and 89, the Huntsman's newest apprentices. The two were chasing a giant snake into the area.
As the snake appears behind them, Jake dragons up and fights the serpent. Rose gets out her Huntstaff, and together they get it out of the area. But little did they know, 88 and 89 were spying on the two working together...
With a feeling they were going to get caught, Rose left Jake in area, saying they need to spend some time apart.
Jake heads off to school, complaining to Trixie and Spud about Rose. He thinks it's okay for them to hang out, as long as he's not in dragon form. Determined, Jake tries to think up a way for them to hang still...
His prayers are answered when Rotwood (substituting for his science assigns his a partner activity. Each group is to design a product to present to the Using his dragon eye sight, he picked Rose's name out of the hat. Rose heads to Rotwood after complaining that he and she can't be partners. Lucky for Jake, he did not let her switch out.
During lunch, Trixie and Spud get work on their invention. Inspired by Spud's winter supply of skin products, they decide to make an 100 Uses Cream.
Meanwhile, Jake is in the lunch line, depressed about Rose wanting to switch out. But Rose joins him, to apologize. Jake convinces her that it's out of their hands, since both have to pass science. With that settled, the two plan a 'study date' at the Library.
Excited about the 'date', Jake humbly joins his friends at the lunch table. But then they both point out a zit at the end of his nose. However, once he heads to the shop, Gramps tells him that it could be the start of his molting cycle.
Fu goes on to explain more in detail about his molting cycle. It starts off as one zit, then a hundred zits. Then soon, his skin will be grey and lumpy as a bowl of expired oatmeal. Jake is suddenly upset, saying that he has a date with Rose tomorrow! She can't see him like this!!
At that same time, Rose, 88, and 89 meet the Huntsman in an abandoned subway station. The Huntsman is angered by the fact that none of them caught the serpent. 88 goes on to explain why they didn't, but just so happens to mention that he and 89 saw Huntsgirl fighting side-by-side with a dragon. Rose starts to get defensive, denying it.
But both Gramps and the Huntsman go on to explain the importance of this serpent. It guards one of 13 Aztec Skulls. They are believed that once all 13 skulls are together, it'll bring the doom to all magical creatures. The scene then switches over, to show that the Huntsman already has 10 of the 13...
The next day at school, Trixie and Spud cower at the site of Jake's face. Jake sighs, especially when Rose heads towards him. Quickly, he runs away before she can see his face. Jake hides in his locker, when she makes it toward him. She tells him that she was calling her, but still Jake runs away...
Rose stands that the library after school, waiting for Jake. But he appears behind her, in dragon form. He goes on to explain that she was right, they can't hand out, not even at school. He then flies away, from her. Rose calls him back to tell something, but he continues on. 88 and 89 just so happened to be watching Rose, and saw her and the dragon both at the library. They now know something is going on, between them.
With Rose's dream charm, she enters into Fu Dog's dream. There, she tells him that the Huntsman tracked the guardian serpent to a cavern in Central Park. That it's important for Jake to be there to get that Aztec Skull before 88 and 89 do.
At the cavern, Jake flies in and is chased by the snake. Rose, 88, and 89 make it soon after, blasting at the snake. As the different groups fight off for the skull, Jake gets a hold of it. But as he continues flying, he flies right into a wall and the skull falls into Rose's hands. As the two apprentices cheer, Rose lifts up her hand, and Jake grabs the skull and flies off. Seeing how obvious she was about it, 88 and 89 knew something was up, and headed down to tell the Huntsman now.
Back at the subway station, the Huntsman was even more furious that they didn't get the skull. He then makes a hologram appear in the middle of the area, showing Rose over Jake's dead body back at the Academy. He feels like Rose isn't the same anymore. 88 looks closely at the dragon, and realized that it looks exactly like the American Dragon. With that, the Huntsman tells Rose to deliver the pelt of the slain dragon, or else it'll be a sign of her betraying the Huntsclan. He then storms off, saying that the serpent has a connection with the skull, and with it, he can find the skull and the American Dragon.
Rose quickly heads over to Gramp's shop. There, Trixie and Spud show Jake their prototype for their 100 Uses Cream. Saying they need one more use, before it'll be 100. But once Rose pops into the area, Jake runs into the bathroom with the skull to hide his skin. She heads to the door, to explain that the Huntsman will be here any minute. Jake blows a whole in the bathroom wall, and heads out into the alley. There, the Huntsman appears with the serpent.
The Huntsman knocks out the serpent,
and the two fight. Jake eventually hits into the wall, and falls on the floor. The Huntsman grabs the skull, and charges his staff to finally dispose of the American Dragon. But just then, a blast comes out of know where, stunning the Huntsman. Rose pops out, with her Huntstaff.
There, she goes to explain to Jake that she'll have to leave the city, since he's asking for a dragon which she doesn't have. Jake feels bad, saying it's his entire fault. He tried to hide himself from his nasty dragon skin, and it ended up getting her in trouble. He then dragon downs, to show her his ugly self. Rose smiles, saying that she likes him for who he is, not how he looks. Just then, Trixie and Spud pop into the area, wondering what happened. Jake looks down at the cream they made, and came up with an idea.
The Huntsman and Huntsgirl pop up in the subway. Rose explains a fake story, on how he got her, but the Huntsman doesn't believe it that much. She goes to say that he still questions her loyalty? Then she throws down a pelt of the dragon. Convinced now, Rose is off the hook.
The next day, Trixie talks about how one rub with their cream, and Jake's molted skin came right off. But Jake still wonders, if the Huntsman bought it. And he was a bit nervous, when Rose wasn't at school. But once he walked into the Rotwood called him up to present his project he and Rose were suppose to make.
Jake tries to think up something, but he has nothing. Suddenly, Rose appears in the with a tardy slip. She stands over by Jake, but she too has nothing. But she looks down at her dream charm, and holds it out to say that's their project. Rotwood is interested, and decides to give them a C-. The two give out a sigh of relief.
After school, the two talk how they'd love to hang out with each other, but it's too dangerous. But Rose smiles at Jake, and hands him a dream charm. Now they both have these bracelets, so they can chill with each other in their dreams without anyone finding out...
