The episode begins with a usual morning time ritual at the Long residence: Jake and Haley race for the bathroom.
They spend the day at their respective schools and we get to see how different they really are.
When Jake picks up Haley after school, they notice 88 and 89 making away with a magical artifact, the legendary Mirror of Seeshin. After recovering it, Gramps explains to Jake that the mirror is a key part in preventing warring leprechaun tribes from feuding. However, he neglects to mention the magical powers of the mirror, and Jake, as well as Haley, activate its powers and switch their bodies.
The next day, both are shocked to discover that they have somehow switched bodies overnight. Running to Fu Dog for an explanation, he explains that the mirror gave enemy leprechaun chiefs a chance to see life from each other's point of view by switching bodies for a day and thus put and end to all the feuding and fighting. However, Jake and Haley are forced to go to each other's schools as Fu doesn't have the mirror any more.
Comic pandemonium ensues at their schools, including a food fight and Haley (in Jake's body) in a ballet recital. However, Jake discovers that Haley had painted a portrait of him as 'something that inspires her'. He is impressed and touched.
When they meet Fu to get switched back during lunch, 88 and 89 steal the mirror again. Jake and Haley learn about each other's dragon powers and finally, in a comic series of events, regain possession of the mirror. Jake in turn helps Haley qualify for a ballet course in Paris.
When they are finally switched back, each sibling now has a greater appreciation and respect for each other's lives.
