It is the Chinese New Year. But it is not looking so good for Jake. Lao Shi signed him and his whole family to do a dragon dance in the Chinatown parade today. As usual, Jake is not looking forward to any family quality time activities. So to avoid it, he convinces Gramps to let him watch the shop with Trixie and Spud, while he takes care of some Chinese New Year traditions.
Once at the shop, Jake is excited his excuse worked! He starts thinking up other ways so he can get out of other things he does not want to do, and watch the shop instead. Suddenly, the three noticed the junk cluttering up the shop. They decide to clean the shop, to make Gramps even happier.
Fu Dog enters in just after they are done cleaning; he is speechless. Jake thinks he did awesome, but actually what he did was bad. Fu goes on to explain that you’re not supposed to clean on Chinese New Year, it brings bad luck. Of course, Jake does not believe him, but once a ton of very serious accidents start to go off, he starts to change his mind. Fu comes up with the idea about retrieving the items they threw out to reverse the curse. With that, Fu and Jake head out to get the stuff back, while Trixie and Spud manage the shop.
Once the two get back, the bad luck still is coming. They realize that they threw out a broken vase this morning, and that was the last thing missing. But before they can do anything about it, an accident releases these three demons from their box prison. Jake and Fu follow them out, while Trix and Spud go out to the garbage to get the vase.
Just as they reach the trash bin, the trash man comes over and dumps the trash into the truck. Now their only chance at getting the vase is to chase after the truck.
The demons fly over to Chinatown, where the parade was currently being held. Luckily, the audience thought it was just some sort of special effects.
Jake battles the three demons, but they are super strong and angry. Luckily, Fu tells Jake that all he has to do is get them to head right back into the box, and they will be trapped for good. With that plan in action, he positions himself perfectly for the first demon, and aims him right for the box Fu was holding. Soon Haley joins in to help. With both of them together, they end up getting the other two back into their prison box.
Trixie and Spud are putting back the broken vase together and Jake and Fu arrive back inside. But as they look over, they are missing a piece! Lao Shi then comes in, and hands them the missing piece. He then admits that he knew what was going on the whole time, but did not help so that he could teach Jake a lesson.
In the end, Jake learns that he should not get out of something, especially something pertaining to his culture. But the whole Long family enjoys a giant fireworks display to end off the Chinese New Year celebration.
