The title given on the episode logo was "An American Idol Christmas."

Justin Guarini, who was dropped by RCA's label in early December, did not show up for the special, despite being announced as one of its performers. Guarini's version of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" appears on the American Idol: The Great Holiday Classics CD, which was released a month before he was dropped from the label.
