    1 Abysmal

ONE OF THE WORSE SHOWS EVER!!!! hide « show »

I don't know why I started watching this stupid show. This show is scripted, fixed, and just lame. I'm not watching this at all in the 9th season or any other season of this show. It's a complete waste of time. All the judges and host could be replaced easily. Yet they keep on there and don't give anybody else not famous to get a chance judge the show.I started this show in in the middle of season five and I've been ever since and I like 16 and I was just to young to really what kind horror this stupid show really is.

It's a good show and fun to watch, but it's getting a little old. hide « show »

I can remember the very first time I ever watched American Idol, when season 2 first started. Since then, I started to look forward to the middle of January every year. However, now I feel the show is getting a little old, and I wonder of people are starting to get tired of it. The one thing I still get really excited about seeing is the auditions at the very beginning. Those can be so funny and unpredictable, but usually the funny ones are also sad. It is also interesting to see what songs the contestants choose to sing and to see what the weekly themes are when it gets down to the final 12 (or in this year's case, 13). One more thing...has anyone else noticed that Ryan has stopped saying "Secrest, out!" at the end of the shows? I have. I wonder why. Marebear2009, out!

    2.5 Terrible

This show should be called "Mediocre-to-Very Good Impressions of Truly Great Musicians" hide « show »

I am not a scrooge, for I appreciate the individual efforts of those who seek fame and fortune via America Idol. And I am in complete agreement with this year's winner. (Although I think the Cindy-Lauperish girl deserved to be runner-up.) The other finalists are, at best, "very good singers." None of them convey the power, range, and emotion of the true "idols" they all so eagerly imitate.

The vast majority of American Idol finalists (regardless of the year) are mediocre-to-good impersonators. They lack musicality, soul, and vocal depth.

The most disgusting thing about this show is that it equates mediocrity with "greatness." These judges (the so-called experts) often fawn over mediocre performances, and act as though they were the most amazing spectacles they've ever witnessed (except for Simon, who obviously plays the role of Devil's Advocate).

Indeed, the very premise of American Idol (mimicking undeniably great musicians like Steven Tyler and Elton John) demonstrates the show's greatest irony--idolizing those who clearly pale in comparison to the musicians they poorly imitate. For those of you who have never heard the actual versions of these songs, take a listen and compare.

Can anybody honestly declare that this year's finalists are as talented as Steven Tyler, Elton John, Robert Plant, Paul McCartney, Ozzy Osbourne, John Lennon, Aretha Franklin, Dave Matthews, etc.?

While this year's winner will likely evolve into an excellent musician, he and the others will probably do nothing more than produce Record Executive-inspired, cookie-cutter pop/rock/country tunes that sound exactly like everything else these days. And the brainwashed culture will, of course, gobble it up like hot cakes. American Idol is warping the minds of the younger generations (those who do not remember pre-cookie-cutter culture). All of the bands in the 70s sounded different--they were all respecatble musicians, and all had a truly original sound.

American Idol dumbs down culture, and brainwashes the younger generation to worship mediocrity. Why? Because the worship of mediocrity breeds stupidity, and a stupid populace is very, very controllable.

    10 Perfect

    Love hide « show »

I have watched this show from season one and have even cancelled plan so as not to miss it (a few years a go i had my parents write me a note saying our car broke down so i would not have to attend my school band concert because if i went i would miss the finale) the only complaint i have i with the new judge Kara. she is so full of herself and it seems like every critique she gives somehow ends about her (although i did think it was funny when she ripped off her clothes with Bikini Girl).

    4 Poor

It's been going on for too long. hide « show »

American Idol was once a great show that I liked to watch, but now it's lost it's substance.

It's not Fun to Watch anymore, and it's become so dull that the only part I like to see is at the beginning because of some of the people that dress up in quirky costumes and uniforms and getting the judges reactions. The winners never even get it big in the music industry anymore...as if they just wanted to win for their 15 minutes of fame. The show has about reached it's time. Cut it. - a n d e r s o n 5 8 7
