Acker: For all my life growing up, I thought I wanted to be a ballerina. And then I got knee surgery in high school so I couldn't dance, and I started taking acting in high school, I guess my sophomore year. Right after that, I knew that was what I wanted. (edit)
(Amy on first landing the role of Fred on Angel)
Amy Acker: At first, I thought I was just doing three episodes. I had a normal audition and at the final call-back, I was the only person there, so I kind of thought I was the one who got it. They said that they were looking for another girl character for the show, but they didn't know who it was going to be. So we kind of convinced them to use me. Joss Whedon wrote a little screen test and I went in a filmed that with J. August Richards and Alexis Denisof, and found out about a day later. (edit)
(Amy's thoughts on the ending of Angel)
Amy: I keep being the only one who cries, then I make everyone else cry and, I feel bad. (edit)
(Amy on her character Fred on Angel)
Amy: Fred loves junk food, so yesterday I got to eat ice-cream. I’m always getting snacks on set. The first day, my room on the set had Taco Bell wrappers all over the floor, so you can see she has been excited to get back and have tacos. (edit)
(On dancing when she was younger)
Amy Acker: While growing up, I was pretty shy, and dance was a great way to express things without having to talk in front of people. (edit)
(Amy on her thoughts about what she wanted in a man)
Amy: I want a guy who likes to be climbed on, I love to hang on to people literally. (edit)
(Amy on being on the set of Angel)
Amy Acker: There was something funny going on pretty much every day. Pretty much any time Andy was on set he had great fun! We would always make fun of him because he had certain things he would do. Like he would do the double takes that Lorne does, then we would have this thing where we would see if get him to do a quadruple take! So we would always do little things, and he would always say little things that we would make fun of. (edit)
(Amy on playing drunk in the Angel episode "Life of the Party")
Amy Acker: That was the funniest thing, because I was talking to Alexis and I was saying, 'now are you going to be really drunk or just a little drunk?', and he was like, 'well I'm not going to do anything crazy...', and we went to rehearse the first scene and he was all 'hurgh.' I was like, 'Oh, so you've developed this whole character thing, so I should probably have done something other than pretend that I'm sleepy.' So we sort of just played with that all day, and it just got progressively crazier as the day went on. (edit)
(On what may have happend on season six of Angel)
Amy Acker: I think it was gonna be a continuation of the finale. With us fighting all of these people on our own and going out against these evil Soprano mafia things. We're trying to kill these people. I think it would have been really interesting. According to Joss, Illyria survived the finale. (edit)
(Amy on meeting Alyson Hannigan on Angel when Alyson guest starred in the episode "There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb")
Amy Acker: This is our first time meeting each other. She’s pretty cool so I’m hoping that Joss will maybe make me a witch or something too. (edit)
(Amy on Wesley's (Alexis Denisof) death scene from the show Angel)
Amy Acker: With Wesley's death scene, that was his final day of working on Angel so everyone was kind of in shock that we were cancelled and it was my last time to work with Alexis. So it was hard, but I guess that one lasted about two hours and the other one was 14 hours. (edit)
(Amy on how she feels about singing when asked if she would sing on Angel)
Amy Acker: I can sing. Whether or not I sing well is another thing. I'm not a singer. (edit)
(Amy's thoughts on the Angel episode "A Hole in the World")
Amy Acker: Joss and Alexis and I went out to do the commentary for the DVD and we sat there for 20 minutes and everyone was so sad that we didn't even say anything! The guy in the booth was like, 'Erm shall I rewind it, because someone needs to talk on this thing?' We had to start over and do it again. (edit)
(On her first day of work on Angel)
Amy Acker: On the first episode, I was just in Cordy's vision, so I didn't have any lines or anything. The first day I worked with anyone in the cast was when we were doing the screen test to see if I was going to be a regular. It was pretty nerve-wracking, because Joss had written it and said, 'We want to see how everyone likes you and if you get along with the cast and stuff too.' So no only was I nervous about the acting, but I was hoping everyone would like me and that I'd click with them! It's kind of out of your control. (edit)
(Amy on her karaoke scene on the Angel episode "That Old Gang of Mine")
Amy Acker: That was horrifying! It was very scary. I have this problem that I usually cry when I sing, so I was like, 'Please give me a sad song!' But I made it through. (edit)
(Amy on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode, "Once More, With Feeling")
Amy Acker: The Buffy musical is so great and amazing! I would actually love to do something like that. J.'s trying to get them to do some kabuki-something or Angel-the-sitcom! (edit)
(Amy on travelling)
Amy Acker: I love it! I lived in Tokyo for a while and I've been to Paris, and pretty much all over the United States. I went to England quite a few years ago and then I just went back while my sister and I were in Paris. All of the people from the show were over there for a Buffy/Angel convention, so I got to see them and hang out with them while they were doing that. (edit)
(Amy on her first reaction to Fred becoming a regular on Angel)
Amy Acker: I was kind of worried about Fred becoming a regular. My old roomie is a big Buffy fan and she said 'I was on the website and people are not excited about a new character joining the show.' It was before I'd even started, so I was like 'Oh, no!' But it seems that everyone has been responding well to it. (edit)
(Amy on shooting Angel episode "Billy")
Amy Acker: Alexis is so much fun to work with and I was really scared most of the time we were shooting that. There wasn't a lot of acting going on there. Both Alexis and J. were pretty scary. When J. broke that chair, grabbed the leg, then stormed at my face! I had no idea he was going to do that. Add to that the fact that the hotel where we filmed those scenes was in downtown LA in the middle of the night, and there was nobody else around. It was just a scary place to begin with. Scary because you're in a deserted hotel at 5:00 in the morning, being chased by someone with an axe! (edit)
(Amy on her and Alexis Denisof's dance scene being cut from Angel episode "Waiting in the Wings")
Amy Acker: I think Alexis might have paid Joss off, so that no one had to see him in his tights! But really, it was so sad when it was cut. Joss called Alexis and me and was like, 'I am the worst person in the world.' He said, 'I wrote this whole episode based on this one dance number and it just doesn't fit into the story.' (edit)
(Amy on life after becoming a regular on Angel)
Amy Acker: I don't sleep near as much. Other than not auditioning all the time and having a job that I go to all the time and constantly learning new scripts, I haven't had a lot of changes. I've only been recognized one time. Maybe it'll start to change more as the show goes on, but I'm pretty much living the same kind of life. (edit)
(Amy on her firts impression of her character Fred on Angel)
Amy Acker: I didn't really have one. My audition scene ended up being very different than what the character actually ended up being. I was just really excited to play a different character than I'd played before, someone fun and quirky, yet still vulnerable. (edit)
(Amy on her favorite moments playing Illyria on Angel)
Amy Acker: I liked beating up Spike so much. That was a lot of fun. That was the first time I ever got really beat up one of the boys. I loved the Illyria stuff in the last episode with Wesley, switching back between Fred and Illyria. (edit)
(Amy on her thoughts about Angel's moving to Sunday nights on the WB)
Amy Acker: I think it'll be good for us. We did well on Mondays, and Sundays was fine. So hopefully everyone will know that we moved and come watch us there. (edit)
(Amy on her character Fred's interaction with the character of Angelus, Angel's souless counterpart, on Angel)
Amy Acker: I do not like Angelus. He makes sure of it early on. He tries to do everything to make sure that we all hate him, so it works. (edit)
(Amy on working with Angel guest star Eliza Dusku in the series fourth season)
Amy Acker: She's great! Fred and Faith haven't had too much interaction. But it's a good, you know, tough energy to have on the set. (edit)
(Amy on her thoughts about Golf)
Amy Acker: Im horrible at golf! It’s pretty stressful if your missing puts and hitting the ball all over the place but I suppose it’s nice to be outside. I don’t mind that I’m bad at it. I still enjoy myself. (edit)
(Amy on life in LA)
Amy Acker: There's not much to dislike about it. Although I'm not really into the LA scene, I don’t go to cool bars or premieres. Everyone is an actor and talks about acting, which can be a bit overwhelming. (edit)
