Amy Sedaris comes from a large Greek family (she has 2 brothers and 3 sisters). She grew up in North Carolina.
She started a baking business with her mother, and then without much thought packed up and moved to Chicago. While there she began taking improvisational classes, and joined the main stage at Second City in the early 90's. While there, she met Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert. The three have collaborated on numerous projects since then. She has also collaborated with her brother David, a world-famous essayist and humor writer.
Amy is best known for her role as Jerri Blank on Strangers with Candy. She has also guest-starred on numerous television shows and appeared in several movies. In 2006, she wrote a hospitality/humor guide.

Amy originally wanted Willie Nelson to play her father on Stranger with Candy, but she was very happy when Dan Hedaya was cast.

Amy says that if she could have a dinner party with anyone, she would want to invite Juliet Low--founder of the girl scouts. She would want to tell Ms. Low how much the girl scouts influenced her life.

Amy is allergic to shellfish. It makes her face swell. Sometimes, she will eat a shrimp just to make friends and acquaintances laugh.

When not acting, Amy runs a homemade cupcake and cheese ball business out of her apartment. She also, occasionally, waits tables at Mary's Fish camp, a restaurant around th ecorner from her apartment.

Amy's older brother is NPR commentator and essayist, David Sedaris. He has written several critically acclaimed books, such as naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, and The Santaland Diaries.

Amy: I really don't like going out. I don't like restaurants because I don't like the idea of someone, a waitress, being responsible for my evening. I like seconds, and more, and lots of conversation, and I've always hated the idea that in a restaurant an evening just ends. I find that incredibly depressing.
