This episode received a 4.1/5 in the Nielsen overnight ratings.
(edit)
Foreshadowing of the events of this episode occured in the Angel episode "Unleashed" (5x03). Spike was telling the story of a fight he once had with a werewolf in which he almost lost a hand.
(edit)
This episode reestablishes that new slayers are embued with some of the memories of the previous slayers, especially how they died. This was a major plot point in the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, but hasn't since been mentioned in the series.
(edit)
There were plans (or at least rumors of them) to have Dana return, but it didn't happen due to Angel being canceled.
(edit)
Nikki and Robin are mentioned during Spike's confontation with Dana. Nikki Wood was a slayer that Spike killed in 1970's New York in the Buffy episode "Fool For Love" (5x07), and Robin Wood was her son who eventually grew up to become the principal of the newly rebuilt Sunnydale High during Buffy the Vampire Slayer's seventh season.
(edit)
Harmony: Boss, we just got a tip some loony's hatched from the bin...
Angel: A who did a what?
Harmony: A girl over in the nuthouse went all Cuckoo's Nest, hacked up a couple of guards and went over the wall. (edit) Angel: Do you think this is a joke?
Spike: Only if you are the punch line. (edit) Spike: You ever taste a penny?
Andrew: No. Wait...No. (edit) Spike: I'd give you the finger but apparently I won't have the motor skills until the drugs wear off. (edit) Spike: (to Angel) I'm not saying you're right. 'Cause I'm physically incapable of saying that. (edit)

When Spike is Chained up in the basement the position of his chains keep moving. The first time we see them they aren't around his neck but the next time we see them they are. Then in the next scene with Spike they change again. It is unlikely that Spike would be able to keep moving the position of his chains while he is chained up.
(edit)
Spike makes a reference to Drusilla, when he tells Dana that he dated an insane girl.
(edit)
It seems to be completely unbelievable to find a surgical saw on a locked psych ward. Not only is it dangerous to have near those patients, but there would be no medical reason for having that equipment outside of a surgical floor.
(edit)
The drugs stored at the warehouse that were used on Dana wouldn't have remained potent or useable after all that time.
(edit)
Dana ripped the door off in the psych ward when she first appeared, but when Angel and Spike arrive the door is just all bent.
(edit)
Andrew: Driven insane by Yoda Knows who...
Keeping with the nerd movie references he mentions a popular Star Wars Character, Yoda. (edit) Andrew: Check the viewscreen, Uhura.
Uhura served as communications officer aboard the Enterprise on its original five-year mission, under the command of James T. Kirk in the original series of Star Trek. (edit) Harmony: A girl over in the nuthouse went all Cuckoo's Nest, hacked up a couple of guards and went over the wall.
One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest is a movie that takes place in a mental institution. It swept the 1976 Acadamy Awards, taking Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Jack Nicholson, who went on to other things), and Best Actress (Louise Fletcher). One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is also a novel by Ken Kesey. (edit) Andrew: (to Spike) Bravo. I see your senses seem to be as well-honed as your Viggo Mortensen pectorals.
Yet another Lord of the Rings reference. Viggo Mortensen plays the role of Aragorn/Strider in the movies. (edit) Andrew: Spike? It's you. It's really you! My therapist thought I was holding on to false hope but, I knew you'd come back. You're like, you're like Gandolf the White resurrected from the pit of the Balrog, more beautiful than ever. Oh! He's alive, Frodo. He's alive!
Many Lord of the Rings name references, probably from his geeky movie watching stage during most of Season 6 of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and chances are he's read the original novels at least once. (edit)
