Sad to say, but this is probably the worst hour of TV Joss Whedon has ever produced. Obviously, I am not fond of this episode, and it must've been filler material. These people are capable of such better stories than this. This feels more like an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, and a bad one at that. Even the so-called "demon" make-up looks like clichéd Star Trek designs just adding a bumpy forehead or something like that to make a person look "alien." The entire plot is far too out of place for the style of the Buffverse, let alone Angel itself. That's saying something considering the broad spectrum of genres that it does encompass, but straight science fiction really has never fit in. The regular series cast maintains their usual high quality acting, but it's just the plot that sours me to this episode. The story just doesn't have much humanity to it, and Bai Ling is not worth looking at here in this make-up design.
Again, this felt like filler. I would've prefered an extra episode with Doyle earlier in the season than have this sub-par quality plot sit dead center in this season. I hate to be so crass about something from a Joss Whedon creation, but this is how I feel.
Angel encounters a renegade demon from another world and seeks to help her in her quest to free the oppressed women there. hide show
She is definitely the weakest episode of Season One and one of the weakest in the entire Buffyverse. It actually starts off very good with Angel and Wesley at Cordelia's houseparty. The dancing scenes were absolutely hilarious, especially Angel's. He looked like such a goof. But from there on out things went downhill. The plot this week wasn't much good. It looks good on paper but in reality it just doesn't work or flow. Things felt quite rushed and forced. The so-called sexual chemistry between Jheira and Angel was practically non-existent and the fight scenes weren't up to much either. There was bit too much backstory for a demon who only appears in one episode. Also, the show's executive producer and one of Buffy's best writers were both working on the story so they could have made it alot better. Bai Ling wasn't great as Jheira and I found it difficult to understand what she said. Also Angel makes it seem likes she unbelievably hot when she's actually pretty weird looking (at least in this episode). However, the dialogue was very good, much better than last week's. Cordelia and Wesley were as always funny and even Angel wasn't as broody as normal. As I've said, that first scene was classic. The special effects were pretty good, much much better than last week's hideously ugly (for the wrong reasons) demon and it was good they kept things simple on the demons. Jheira as a character was quite interesting also. But even though the dialogue and the effects were a big improvement on Expecting the storyline was just bad. Expecting's wasn't great but better than this. It does get more entertaining on rewatched but they could have made it a lot better. As it stands, She is just a disappointment, especially from such a great show.
Line of the episode:
Cordelia: You know how parties are. You're always worried that no one's gonna suck the energy out of the room like a giant black hole of boring despair. But there you were, in the clinch!

Not really the Angel we re used to...
But at least we got that imaginary Angel dance sequence.

Hm, where do I begin?
The plot in this episode is too far fetched, some of the acting is barely bearable (you know what I mean :) ) and it simple doesn't fit in "Angel".
It's certinly worst episode this season until this point.
I m glad "rogue demon hunter" is here to stay, to say the least, and Angel's imaginary dance sequence was hilarious.
All in all, not too many bright points to this episode, it was just a filler, the worst kind.
I hope Joss and the crew will make up for this little fiasco in the episodes to come.
'Till next time, regards.

She-Wesley becomes an official part of Angel Investigations just in time to take part in their latest case. A series of horribly burned corpses lead to a race of creatures from another dimension whose gender warfare is spilling over into the streets of L.A.
Bizarre, weird and almost unwatchable. She is the worst episode of the season and should be forgotten. The whole plot with the species from alternate dimension having a gender war in L.A. is just poorly executed and too sci-fi for Angel. It just feels so out of place here, and should have been an episode of Sliders, Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica, ANYTHING BUT ANGEL! Bai Jing is barely tolerable as Jheria as her thick accent makes it hard for you to understand anything she's saying which hurts her performance. Not to mention, she was the character who was explaining the story to the audience and since I don't understand most of what she was saying and I was lost during the rest of the episode. The only thing cool about her was the heat touch, which is original power but the orgasm touch or aura whatever is just awkward and ridiculous. I would just get annoyed everytime she would touch Angel and David had to act all defenseless and lusty, it was just wrong. Also by the way, I hated how she almost got Cordelia and Wesley killed by those demonic guys, the slutty-looking heffa! The only good part was the beyond hilarious teaser with Angel and Wesley dancing at Cordelia's house party, just priceless! But even that couldn't take away the utter mess of this whole hour. All and All, just a bad episode that didn't belong anywhere near Angel in the first place.
