70 years ago today, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera brought us the animated short called Puss Gets the Boot, the first in a series of 114 cartoons featuring Tom and Jerry (although, in this premiere short the mouse was not named and the cat was called Jasper). While only seven of these cartoons won Academy Awards, (almost) all their appearances have entertained viewers of all ages for years.
Staring with the 60s, others tried making new Tom & Jerry cartoons, and while their efforts were valued, none of their cartoons had the same success (or charm) as the originals.
Today, Tom and Jerry are still the most famous cat and mouse duo in the world. Happy 70th Anniversary to them!
