I think DBZ is. I don't think Pokemon is popular even though lots of people know about it. If everyone hates it it is not popular.

At one point "everyone" loved Pokemon and i really don't think DBZ went as big at its peak.

I know it is the most well known but if you look at the definition of popular: Widely liked or appreciated(http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=popular) I know it was well liked at one point but not now.

yeah, pokemon was pretty popular when it was going around, though. isn't that what counts?

and before I read the posts, I was going to say 'sailor moon,' because it was one of the first anime things over here in America, but I really wasn't thinking about Pokemon as being an anime. although it is, I guess...

It seems like anything that can be successful as a card game would make a good anime. Pokemon and YuGiOh, for example.

But I think Pokemon stuck and became more popular. There are still events going on today!

Definitely Pokemon.  Dragonball Z follows pretty closely behind.  Those are the first two animes that comes in the average American's minds when anime is brought up.  Sailor Moon was only popular among young boys

First, let me set this straight.  Most popular means currently, well-liked.  This means Pokemon, Sailer Moon, DBZ, and any other 1990's anime are out of the running.  This also includes Yu-Gi-Oh because, let's face it, the show is getting really old, really fast.

In my opinion, Inuyasha is currently the most popular but Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist are likely to beat him out.

Naruto hasn't even became a craze yet, besides it being on CN it just came out with only one game.

The Pokemon fandom is slowly dying, but it's easily the most famous from back when it first started. I think people started hating it after Satoshi beat the Indigo League and they added tons of new Pokemon. Too many Pokemon can make you confused as to which is which.
