I don't think people started hating it because it was confusing but it was just stupid how many Pokemon they're were and how the main character guy always wins. And the Pokemon fanbase isn't dying slowly, it is already dead.

I'd say DBZ has been the most popular. I like Fullmetal Alchemist the best though, but DBZ has been more popular.

Pokemon seemed to be the most popular anime out there in American at some point. Most people don 't have a clue about most if any other shows out there but maybe DBZ and Pokemon.

Pokemon has went downhill over the years though IMO, but so has dbz, but I still think dbz is more popular.

Pokemon had a bigger fanbase and toy line than DBZ.

Pokemon was probably the most popular anime ever. I mean DBZ was pretty popular but it never got the fanbase that Pokemon reached at the height of it's popularity.

Well I think we have to remember the hayday of each of these series: DBZ and Pokemon. Personally I think Pokemon wins, but only for this reason. It's targeted to a younger audience. And nobody wants their TV and merchandise more then 7-12 year olds. I now that I got trapped in that craze when I was that age. Come on, Pokemon stickers and tattoos, who could resist?!

I don't have any actual numbers to back up my statements, but Pokemon was HUGEEEEEEEEEE!!! DBZ is still popular, and while it did have a huge fanbase, it wasn't HUGEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! most definately. I know noone that hasn't atleast HEARD of them. They don't always like but they know about them so I say those two are the most popular/well known.

Then we got Naruto. That's very very popular with teens (especially me!

Pokemon was a phenomenon. Every kid in America (that wasn't dirt poor) saw at least one episode or Pokemon.

Also, even though it's only six episodes long, FLCL was pretty damn popular everytime it was shown.  On average, I heard it received like a million viewers per episode.  Maybe for Dragonball Z and Pokemon that's normal, but a million viewers per viewing is still a damn lot.

As sad as it is, Poke'mon and Dragon Ball Z have this by a landslide. Funny how both of them just dropped out after so many years.

The reason they are so popular is because they are some of the longest (if not the longest) anime. They also were some of the first animes to come to America.

I would say some of the first known cartoons from japan. Because anime like Robotech and Voltron were out before it in America but not many knew they were from Japan.
