I am on the first few episodes of Season 2 of Sonic X and I'm noticing some major similarities between it and Dragonball GT.

DBGT - Need to travel throughout the universe to collect the 7 dragonballs to keep the world from being destroyed.
Sonic X - Need to travel throughout the universe to collect the 7 Chaos emeralds to keep the world from being destroyed.

DBGT - Goku gets a golden glow and blond hair when he goes Super Saiyan.
Sonic X - Sonic gets a golden glow and blond hair when he goes Super Sonic

DBGT - At the beginning, something happens before the adventure starts that turns Goku back into a kid.
Sonic X - At the beginning, something happens before the adventure starts that turns Chris back into a kid.

DBGT - They develop a more sophisticated radar to detect the Dragonballs throughout any distance.
Sonic X - They develop a more sophisticated radar to detect the Chaos Emeralds throughout any distance.

There are more major similarities, but these are just the first few MAIN ones that caught my attention. Am I the only one who noticed all of these similarities?

A lot of the things you mentioned from Sonic X were actually in various Sonic games earlier on, before DB GT was made (although you could probably argue that they also existed in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball, which were made before the Sonic games).

At least for the seven balls, Dragon Ball GT/Z/(nothing) was almost entirely based upon the Chinese Buddhist story "Journey to the West". The main adventurer had the same name (Sun Wukong, or when the characters are read in Japanese, Son Gokuu), he was a monkey (remember what happens to Saiyans on a full moon), he had to go on a journey to find seven sutras and so on. It's not entirely impossible that they both just drew inspiration from the same story.

I thought that the space saga was from Sonic X season 3, not 2. Anyway, Some of your points are valid. However, Son Goku 1st went Super Saiyan in Dragonball Z, not DBGT. And Bulma invented the the Dragon Radar back in Dragon Ball. So you can't rightfully call either a creation of DBGT.

Another thing that Sonic X's space saga has in common with DBGT is that they're both lame, IMHO.

you took the words right out of my mouth... well... in a little better  english  , but the meaning is the same...

the "jurney to the west" influenced many writers ...there was also a show named "Power stone" if someone remembers , it had the same Cliche story about 7 stones and people going after them ...kind off , it was a little bigger than that , and that's one of the things I loved abot it , heh you should check it out sometime...

umm anyway I want to add that the 7 items cliche has it's reason...  7 is called "the perfect number" in many religions and believes , and that also the reason why many people make it their lucky number...

heh I'd say Dragon Ball is a copy because I like the sonig games but I won't do that because overall I don't think neither of them is a copy , they are both tottaly different and only use a similar  idea for the base story...

LSyd - You've got a good point about the Journey to the West, but I still think they copied a few things from each other (Just a little).

BlackStar - There are only 2 Seasons aren't there? And I know Goku first went Super Saiyan in DBZ, but my comparison was for DBGT still, and I know Bulma invented the Dragon Radar in DB, BUT I stated that they "DEVELOPED A MORE SOPHISTICATED" radar detector. And I also agree that the space thing was a little lame.

Moon-Knight - I was just pointing out the things I thought were kinda weird because of how similar they were between the two of them. I never said that either series wasn't good. I liked the Dragonball series so much that I had watched all of the DB/DBZ/DBGT Episodes/Movies/Specials in Japanese before they even released DB or DBGT in the US, and then watched again in English.

This is kind of off topic, but did you know that Power Stone was also based off of a game series ? Just like how Sonic X was based off of the original Sonic games. Although, Sonic X is lame. And so are all of the new Sonic games. The entire franchise pretty much became lame after it left the DC, when that became an outdated system. Its sure nothing like the classic platformer series that I used to know and love .

100% agreement here . Especially considering the fact that DBGT, wasn't ever written by Akira Toriyama. Its just something that a stupid anime studio picked up, thinking that they could continue the series on their own (this was mainly done out of DBZ's immense popularity in Japan at the time).

Exactly. That's why I don't consider DBGT to be a "true" Dragon Ball series. Akira Toriyama was in no way involved with the shows' production. It was only made because the DB fans and the network didn't want the DB franchise to end after DBZ.

As for Sonic X, when I first saw the end of the shows' previous season with the flash forward to Chris and his buddies as adults, I thought that was meant to be the series finale. Bringing the show back and the turning Chris into a kid again was just stupid, IMHO.

Word. The latest Sonic series was no better than the latest games have been. If you ask me, the Sonic franchise pretty much jumped the shark after they jumped on the Mario Kart bandwagon and had their own racing game series.

wow idid not know about the Buddhist story  that makes More sense

i knew that the DB/DBZ\DBGT were similar to the sonic series but i had know idea about the  story "journey to the west"

it makes more sense to me now and i kind of like the idea of them bing based on that story

my friend and i have been trying to figure it out he thinks that DB/DBZ\DBGT copied it form sonic because the games were made

    before the shows of DB/DBZ\DBGT

so ill have to tell him that it is becous of this story
