Save a few shows, such as the Avatar and the Proud Family, which are two of my godson's favorites that are currently on.

But Ed Edd and Eddy teaches nothing in the way of morals and ditto for what I've seen of Sponge Bob, Courage: the cowardly dog, Grim and Mandy, Flapjack, Chowder, and total drama island; among others.

We need to bring back cartoons with morals at the end and FAMILY tv shows like the Rifleman that tought morality. We also need to watch them with our kids and ask questions!

I don't think cartoons need morality they're just cartoons there not real they're fiction only shows with real people in it or what you call sitcoms have morals in them is probably it.

You might want to look at shows that are broadcast with the E|I logo. Those usually have some sort of lesson. Anything in PBS Kids. There's also Veggie Tales, Wonder Pets, Peep and the Big Wide World. You'll be hard pressed to find "what did we learn today" among today's cartoons, and no, South Park's lesson of the day doesn't count.

It's been like this for a while, in fact it might have been worse back then. Ren and Stimpy? The Road Runner? Tom and Jerry? These shows taught kids nothing except violence. Like Angus_Mac said, you should have them watch shows shown on PBS.

I think a lot of it is to do with the fact that nowadays, what is right or wrong stems from personal opinion, and the people who make TV shows, at least for younger children, would prefer to avoid anything which may be controversial and instead let parents make up their own minds as to what kind of things the kids should be taught because when it comes down to it, it is their responsibility.

A discussion about morality with children can only go so far because in the end, the parents are seen to be more "powerful" and so the discussion invariably ends up rather one-sided. It's really only once the child gets into his/her teenage years that they really have the ability to make up their own mind, hold an opinion and are confident enough to assert it even if it differs from that of their parents, and if I had kids, until that stage, I'd avoid trying to push my own set of morality onto them apart from situations where they are directly relevant to the child.

Don't start complaining about TV just because your kid is screwed up.

*rolls eyes* It's not just cartoons that lack morals and it hasn't just been happening recently. Besides, a bunch of those shows you mentioned are cancelled.

Sex sells, not morality. And to be honest that is the way it will stay. Morality on TV is just dull.

If you want kids to learn morality, take 'em to Sunday School Cartoons are mostly meant to get a laugh, not actually teach stuff. (Those that do, in an entertaining way, are better for it, though)

There are SOME shows that have some morality in it today, though. A few examples include "Skunk Fu!"(bad show or not, it's still a very moral-based show, if that's what you need for entertainment mixed with martial arts action and humor), "Johnny Test"(as stupid as it sounds, Johnny actually does learn a few things about growing up after each episode), "The Secret Saturdays", "Ben 10: Alien Force", "Naruto", "Transformers Animated", and a few more. Chowder may have a few, but most are probably just made up, same goes with Flapjack. Alot of anime have morals. Morals mixed with action and humor is actually more entertaining to me than action or humor without morals. It's kinda stupid without morals, and it's just wrong most of the time. I will watch something if it's funny or action-filled, but morals do add to the experience, if of course, they don't ruin the action or humor in any way.

I agree. Alot of those E|! shows (or whatever they are) do nothing but teach the kids a lesson and when kids see them, they know it's an educational thing and can tune out rather quickly. Alot of other cartoons are fun, silly, and outlandish, but tend to mix in a lesson at the end and they do a good job of not shoving it in the face of the viewer.

There were several episodes of Courage that held moral lessons.

    Anyway who cares?
Did Looney Tunes hold moral lessons?
No, most of the time, no.

    Cartoons are supposed to entertain.
If you want moral lessons, go watch Care Bears or something.
