Anne Francis was born in Ossining, New York in 1930. Her career began at the age of five when she started as a child model. Before long she was doing radio work on such children's shows as "Lets Pretend" and "Coast to Coast on a Bus". She then appeared on Broadway in the play "Lady in the Dark" with Gertrude Lawrence. Her radio work continued on such radio soap operas as "Portia Faces Life", "Rosemary", "When a Girl Marries" and "Aunt Jenny".
In 1948, Anne went to Hollywood where she was put under contract to MGM for one year. Her first film role was a small part in "Summer Holiday" with Mickey Rooney. She then returned to New York where she began appearing regularly on television. She even had a regular spot as one of the hosts of the variety program "The Bonnie Maid Versatile Variety Show" (the other two hosts were Eva Marie Saint and Carol Ohmart.) The "Bonnie Maids" introduced the show and did the commercials, all the while wearing Scottish costumes complete with kilts!
Her many film roles include "Bad Day at Black Rock", "Susan Slept Here", "Blackboard Jungle" and "Forbidden Planet" (which along with her popular roles on "Twilight Zone" has made her a cult figure in the sci-fi world.)
In 1965, Anne was cast in the title role in the series "Honey West". The part of a James Bond-like private investigator who just happened to be a woman was a true rarity in 1965. Although it only lasted one season, "Honey West" is one of Anne's most popular characters.
Anne's body of television work is truly staggering and she continues to be active in film and TV.
