Lex tries to turn a soldier that supposedly died in Afghanistan into a "super-soldier." A senator threatens to tell the world about Lex's labs, prompting Lex to send the "soldier" to kill the senator. Lois sees the attack and becomes the soldier's next victim.

Annette's daughter, Nell Geisslinger, is also an actress. (edit) Annette and her husband, Michael appeared as husband and wife in 2000 in a episode of Law & Order entitled Mega, season 10. (edit) While shooting Smallville in Vancouver, Annette often wrote a lot of lyrics to put into song while walking in Stanley Park. (edit) At the 2004 Academy Awards ceremony, Annette and her husband, Michael, performed A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow on stage, an Academy Award-winning song they wrote together. (edit) Cynthia Ettinger was originally cast to be Martha on Smallville. Cynthia shot the pilot. However, Annette replaced her afterward and a new pilot was shot. (edit)

Annette O'Toole: (about songwriting) It's almost like an acting exercise for me. Maybe that’s why I’m able to do it, because I’ve been acting so long. You just kind of put yourself in the emotional place of this person singing the song and it just seems to come out, melodically and lyrically. That’s just the way I think about it. (edit) Annette O'Toole: My mother was a dancing teacher and I started taking dance from the time I was three. When I was 13, my family moved out to Los Angeles and I began acting lessons. I would get jobs here there, starting with The Danny Kaye Show. At 17, I started studying acting in depth. I left singing and dancing behind at that point. Those careers seemed very short to me, while acting could go on forever. (edit) Annette O'Toole: I've had seven wonderful years playing Martha Kent but the fire just burned out and it's time to move on. (edit) Annette O'Toole: What can you say about such a man as Christopher Reeve? He embodied all the best that a human being can hope to be. (edit) Annette O'Toole: Boy, are they writing for me. I get to work so much with John Glover. I’ve never seen anybody work so hard; he is such an amazingly dedicated actor, an inspiration, and just so much fun. (edit)
