Antonia is the daughter of the late Lord Longford, an Irish peer, former minister in Labour governments, well known prison reformer and Catholic writer. Belonging to a famously intellectual family, she writes historical biographies and thrillers.

Antonia has been married twice. Her first husband was Sir Hugh Fraser, with whom she has six children (Benjamin, Damian, Orlando, Rebecca, Flora, and Natasha) and quite a number of grand-children. Hugh and Antonia divorced in 1977, and she married secondly the English playwright Harold Pinter.

Antonia was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1999.
