  • Brian: They accused me of starting a riot.
    Rene: And did you?
Brian: The inhumane conditions of this facility caused it. Six inmates to each cell, medical treatment not suitable for dogs, contaminated food, but we changed all that.
Rene: And you're in for life. []
  • Brian: I do a thousand finger-tip pushovers every day, just to be on the safe side. I sleep only a few hours a day, I do not want to sleep my life away, and when I'm not doing that, I read case laws, and I write, and I pray. []
  • Rene: He got kicked out of Moorehouse because he wanted black studies in a black college. After that he got so angry he robbed a convenient store.
Sara: Rene, every black man is angry, your father was angry, your Uncle Martin was angry, your brother is filled to the brim with anger, and none of them ever broke any laws.
Rene: What about marching, and sitting at segregated tables?
Sara: That was different, we were fighting for our rights. []
