Notes

When Gob says that the video he is shooting is called "'Tricks'... let me finish... 'around the office'" it is a callback to "Let 'Em Eat Cake" when Gob says "Macaroni... let me finish... salad." (edit)
Tobias sneaks on to (and lives on) the set of Detective Frank Wrench. The show "Wrench" was featured in the episode "Burning Love" where Lindsay goes out on a date with the actor who portrays Detective Wrench. (edit)
If you look closely, in the scene where Lindsay attempts to seduce Tobias, you will notice that Tobias is reading "Poof" Magazine. (edit)
Michael and Gob have now both fathered illegitimate children they are unaware of (recall that in the "On the Next..." segment of "Out on a Limb," Maggie Lizer discovered she was really pregnant). (edit)
Rating: 4.2/6 (edit)
Ron Michaelson is the Ditech.com guy. (edit)
Talk about cross-promotion! In this episode alone, there are references to Mrs. Doubtfire, Star Wars, and The Simpsons -- all properties that owned and/or distributed through 20th Century Fox. (edit)
The video of George Michael taping over his grandparents' 40th Wedding Anniversary while practicing his Star Wars "moves" is a spoof of a guy who has become famous around the internet known as "Star Wars Kid." He snuck into his school's AV lab and taped over a segment of his high school's basketball game with him "practicing" his moves as if he were Darth Maul from "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace." As revenge for taping over the game, the video was put on the Internet for all to laugh at. It's an incredibly funny video that has spawned numerous remixes. (edit)
The rapid-fire images from George Michael's campaign video: 1) a spoon of white powder and a hypodermic syringe; 2). a pentagram; 3) a Klansman and a burning cross; 4) a dark, raptorial bird in a tree; 5) a saluting Nazi; 6) Mr. Bananagrabber; 7) a five-pointed star drawn in blood (edit)
Lindsay's 'SLUT' T-shirt appears yet again in Gob's movie about George Michael. (edit)
When they show the tape of George Micheal playing Star Wars the first time, when it pans out to his audience, the family, you hear him say "My hand!" in reference to Luke Skywalker losing his hand. The camera then pans to Buster, who will lose his hand. (edit)

Gob: (referring to Steve Holt) This kid's popular? Looks like a chick I did once in high school. (edit)
Gob: Well, guess who's been fired.
Lucille: Michael fired you?
Gob: No, I fired him. As a result, I'm no longer welcome in the office. (edit)
Michael: (on Steve Holt) So, he's more popular than George Michael then?
Maeby: That's like comparing apples and some fruit nobody's ever heard of. (edit)
Lindsay: Can’t you at least come over and Dustbuster or something?
Lupe: I no does Buster anymore! (edit)
(After Indian candidate's video)
Gob: (hiding in crowd) Go home, you terrorist!
Michael: How stupid do you have to be to say something like that ...?
Gob: (revealed) You're not wanted here! (edit)
Ann: (on abstinence) That first time after waiting and waiting, it's going to be so awesome! Because it's not just going to be my love and George Michael's, but God's love as well. God, it's going to be incredible! (edit)
Gob: I figured out a way to make money while I'm working.
Michael: But that is what we call working. (edit)
Lindsay: Tobias moving out hasn't been easy.
Michael: For any of us.
Lindsay: You didn't even notice he'd gone, did you?
Michael: I did notice we'd stop Tivoing the Christopher Lowell show. (edit)
Michael: You've got to be the laziest person in the world.
Lindsay: If you weren't all the way on the other side of the room, I'd slap your face. (edit)
Gob: (referring to Ann) Plus, she's religious. That one gets pregnant, it stays pregnant. Believe me, I dated a chick like that once in high school ... no, I didn't. (edit)
Maeby: How do you know Steve Holt? Are you in AA? (edit)
(Referring to a small leopard-print thong)
Tobias: Well excuse me for liking the way they shape my junk. (edit)
(Lucilles catches Buster and the Roomba in bed)
Buster: What do you expect, Mother? I'm half machine! I'm a monster! (edit)
(Catching Buster and Lupe in bed)
Lucille: And yet you're too good to polish the candlesticks. You're fired!
Buster: You can't fire me. I'm your son. I'm firing you!
Lucille: I was firing Lupe.
Buster: Well, that makes more sense. (edit)

Trivia

add »
In Gob's attempts to make George Michael look like a "cool guy," he makes him wear his leather with red and white striped jacket, the same one he is wearing in the rest of the episode. (edit)
When Gob is describing his new way to make money, he says he is going to perform "tricks" around the office and call it "Tricks [lemme finish] around the Office" but in any past episode if someone else says "tricks" around Gob he corrects them saying "Illusions! Tricks are what a whore does" (edit)
When the "Indian kid" is showing his campaign video to the school, a cameraman can easily be seen in the bleachers behind Gob. (edit)
George Michael seems to be in love with Ann during this episode. However, in a previous episode ("Out on a Limb"), he was hatching a scheme to get rid of her. (Reply: Perhaps he's simply fallen in love with her again.) (edit)

Allusions

add »
Elections: Ann claiming the Christian vote can make someone president - is an allusion to how Rove & Bush claim the Christian vote put Bush in office. (edit)
n/a: Blackstool
Tobias' alter-ego, Mrs. Featherbottom, reveals she comes from Blackstool, England. This is a pun in reference to the large coastal town of Blackpool, England. (edit)
Title: The Immaculate Election
The title is a pun of an NFL play called The Immaculate Reception.

The game was played on 1972 between the Oakland Raiders and the Pittsburgh Steelers, in which a play where Steeler's Quarterback Terry Bradshaw passed to John (Frenchy) Fuqua. The ball converged with Fuqua and Raiders safety Jack Tatum. The ball popped out and in to the hands of rookie running back Franco Harris who took off down the left sideline to score a touchdown, all the while the Raiders celebrated after the supposed dropped pass.

The Raiders argued that Fuqua had batted the ball to Harris (the rules of the time did not permit consecutive touches by offensive players). The touchdown stood and the pass went down in History. (edit)
n/a: George Michaels Star Wars Homevideo

This is a copy of the video of Ghyslain, or better known as the "Star Wars Kid" who made a homevideo of himself fighting with a stick, which was leaked on the internet by someone he knew in 2003, and was edited to add in Lightsaber effects, both the original and the edited then was downloaded millions of times and was also shown on TV all over the world. The video of George Michael was clearly copied from that. (edit)
Speaking mock - Biblically, George Sr. tells Michael he is "Gallant", and says he needs "Goofuth's" help for George-Michael's election.
This is a reference to Highlights Magazine's "Goofus and Gallant" cartoons, which teach life lessons by showing Goofus being lazy, irresponsible, or rude, then showing Gallant in the same situation being polite and concientious. (edit)
The Immaculate Conception is the belief that Mary was impregnated by God and remained a virgin, giving birth to Jesus Christ.
No, this is the virgin birth. The Immaculate Conception is the doctrine that Mary was able to remain free from original sin (totally clean conception) at her birth to make her worthy of bearing the Son of God. This is not anything supported by the text of the Bible. (edit)
When Michael hears that Tobias moves out, his first reaction is, "So that's why we've stopped tivoing Christopher Lowell"

Christopher Lowell is a very "flamboyant" interior designer which is probably another jab at how Tobias is "allegedly" gay. (edit)
