How do i do that, do I just have to get 80 contribution points or do I have to surpass the powers of the retired editor?

If there is no editor you will need 80 points.

    80 if it's a show, 40 if it's a person.

That's also assuming there isn't another contributor in front of you for that show.

I've been wondering this too. There are some shows with "retired" editors far above 80 CP but the shows have no current editor. I'm going to try and accrue 80 CPs and see if I become the new editor.

Is the procedure the same for retired editors to return? I was abroad for a year and didn't log in regularly, so was retired for MIA for an old show from the 1990s. Now I'm back, and I'm interested in contributing again. Do I need to accrue 80 points to get back the editorship? Or is it not possible? Thanks!

So I got 80 CP on a show with a retired editor and I become the editor of the show. So that answers my question.

I don't know how the retired editor gets their status back. I did notice that the retired editor for the show I just became the editor for is no longer on the Top Contributor list. Weird.

If an editor retires they can't edit the guide.

Hah, interesting. It'd be nice if the retired editors got to keep their name on the list of contributors. All of their hard work shouldn't be forgotten.
