Each season of Babylon 5 has its own title. The title for season two is " The Coming of Shadows”
(edit)
This marks the first appearance of guest star Kim Strauss as the unnamed Ensign. Strauss would appear in fourteen episodes as a human, Drazi, Narn, Markab, and Minbari.
(edit)
John Sheridan, like Michael Girabaldi, wears his link on his right hand. This is because actor Bruce Boxleitner, like actor Jerry Doyle, is left-handed.
(edit)
This episode was originally had the title "Chrysalis, Part II."
(edit)
Captain John Sheridan scored Earth's only battlefield victory during the Earth-Minbari War. He destroyed the Minbari flagship Black Star by mining the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars. He acquired the nickname "Starkiller" among the Minbari warrior class and also their lasting hatred.
(edit)
The whole cast was asking themselves during summer break if Deleen would have wings after leaving the cocoon. Because of this Straczyniski put some refrences in this Epsiode, like the security guy tricking the other one: "It's Delenn, she left the cocoon and is flying around..."
(edit)
In the opening credits, Delenn is shown in her old form from the first season as to not ruin the surprise of her transformation which is revealed at the end of the next episode. This was however forgotten when they created the Widescreen version for the SciFi Channel.
(edit)
Sheridan: The Babylon project was our last best hope for peace. A self contained world of five miles long located in neutral territory. A place for commerce and diplomacy for a quarter of a million humans ans aliens. A chining beacon in space, all alone in the night. It was the dawn of the third age of mankind. The year the great war came upon us all. This is the story of the last of the Babylon stations. The year is 2259, the name if the place is Babylon 5.
(edit)
Ivanova: I learned a while ago that there's enough guilt in the world to go around without grabbing for more. Give yourself the benefit of a doubt.
(edit)
Ivanova: And I thought I was a pessimist!
(edit)
Delenn: They fight bravely. They can not harm our ships, but they continue to try.
Hedronn: Whether they fight or not, they know they will die anyway. So really, is this bravery or simple desperation?
Delenn: Perhaps they are the same thing. (edit) Lennier: Ambassador Delenn is indisposed at the moment. Perhaps you would come back later, ... much later. (edit) Lennier: If you are going to kill me, then do so. Otherwise, I have considerable work to do. (edit) Franklin: Well, the human body is an amazing thing. It can cure itself, or it can simply decide one day that the world is too painful to deal with and won't cooperate no matter how hard you try to heal it. (edit) Kalain: They tell us Sinclair is now on our world.
Hedronn: He's an ambassador.
Kalain: So you say. But the Grey Council never tells anyone the whole truth, does it. (edit) Ivanova: And this will be your quarters. I hope it's satisfactory.
Sheridan: It's fine, fine. Certainly a lot bigger than what I'm used to. Does this place come with a shower? I mean, a real live honest-to-god shower with running water and everything?
Ivanova: Executive suites and command quarters all have showers with live honest-to-god water. The rest get vibe showers. Our water reclamation system can't handle much more than that. (edit) Sheridan: What's our status?
Ivanova: Chief of security is in critical condition in medlab. He thinks there's a conspiracy concerning the president's death. Ambassador G'Kar has mysteriously vanished. After two years we still don't know what Ambassador Kosh looks like inside his encounter suit. And Ambassador Delenn is in a cocoon.
Sheridan: A cocoon? As in a moth or a butterfly?
Ivanova: Yes, sir. About yea high.
Sheridan: Interesting place you have here. (edit) Lennier: It is our belief that every generation of Minbari is reborn in each following generation. Remove those souls and the whole suffers. We are diminished. Over the last 2000 years there have been fewer Minbari born into each generation. And those who are born.. do not seem equal to those who came before. It is almost as if our greater souls have been .. disappearing. (edit) Lennier: I told them, Delenn, as I was ordered. I only wish I could've told them the rest. About the great enemy that is returning. About the prophesy that the two sides of our spirit must unite against the darkness or be destroyed. They say it will take both of our races to stop the darkness. (edit) Ivanova: I can only conclude that I'm paying off Karma at a vastly accelerated rate! (edit) Ivanova: Well then I'll say a prayer for him tonight.
Franklin: He's agnostic.
Ivanova: Then I'll say half a prayer. (edit)
Hedronn: Whether they fight or not, they know they will die anyway. So really, is this bravery or simple desperation?

In the B5 TV movie "In the Beginning", Robin Sachs' Minbari character was named "Coplann." In this episode, the character is named "Hedronn" even though they are both the same character that advises Delenn at the Battle of the Line.
(edit)
Continuity: In the B5 TV movie "In The Beginning", which takes place some years before this episode, and was produced years after it, Sheridan meets G'Kar and Dr. Franklin. But in Earhart's, Franklin talks as though he's never met him.
(edit)
The Minbari nickname, "Starkiller," for Sheridan, was also the original last name for Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope" (1977) as chosen by Lucas in writing the original script and also in preliminary promotional material. Lucas felt, upon review, that the name was too dark for a heroic character and changed it at time of filming. This may very well be a nod from Straczynski to Lucas.
