Brubaker: You want to take a look at the list of itemized deductions we got. Two totally destroyed walkie-talkies, irreparable, a pair of binoculars with both lenses broken and pair of cuffs was issued to you and never turned in, Eighteen dollars.
Baretta: I been breakin' all that stuff.?!?
Brubaker: Baretta what are you doin' here? You know you owe me a report on a jewelry heist. I've got three murders here.
Baretta: I'm a sick man.
Brubaker: I don't care if you're sick or not, take a coupla aspirins and get outta here, go out on the streets and see if you can get somethin' for me.
Baretta: This is eighteen dollars Boss.
Brubaker: Then you're gonna have to work this month so you can eat next month.
Baretta: I think I know where that walkie-talkie is.
Brubaker: I'm gonna kill ya Baretta, you give me your cold. (edit) Solomon: I have the shop two streets over.
Baretta: Oh yeah, your the new jeweller no, the watch guy. I seen you over there yeah.
Solomon: I been told I must join the East Side Benevolent Association and that I must pay twenty dollars every week. I ask other people and they say yes that I must pay. Is this a law of this association?
Baretta: No, Mr. Solomon, it is not a law. Mr. Goldfarb.
Solomon: Solomon Goldfarb.
Baretta: Solomon, I'll call you Solomon. No it's not a law, it's what you call the lesser of two evils.
Solomon: If it is not a law, then I must not pay.
Baretta: Nope, you haven't been in this country a long time, have you? Well some things like these bad men that you pay, they keep the badder men away. It doesn't make it right, it's always been that way, even when I was a little boy in this neighborhood, why the garbage truck wouldn't come down the street cuz the man was afraid to drive. And if there was a fire, the building would burn down the firemen were afraid to come to the neighborhood, people would hit each other over the head for a nickel. And now there is protection, it isn't right, but I don't know what is right, Mr. Solomon, ah Solomon. It's the way it is. And everybody in the neighborhood pays to keep the neighborhood safe. I'm a policeman I know that sounds silly doesn't it. (edit)
