When writer Al Geiger at Luxor Publishing Company reports that he thinks he has found incriminating evidence against Luxor's niece Jackie, Steve Webber suggests that he hire Barnaby to investigate. Unknown to Geiger, Webber sends two business associates to impersonate Barnaby and J.R. and on his way home from the meeting Geiger is killed. When Geiger's widow tries to reclaim the retainer Geiger left with "Barnaby", J.R. is sent to investigate.
