Carl Everett has hired a member of the scuba Trident Club to help him find the wreck of a plane that went down years ago.

When the member of the club is killed underwater and floats up, Everett and his partner cover the murder since they don't want others to know the location they were searching.

The leader of the Trident club hires Barnaby to investigate when his friend's death is considered an accident. Since JR is certified in scuba he makes dives and almost is blown up himself.

It finally turns out that Everett's wife was on that plane when it went down and with her she had some very expensive jewels that were stolen during the fall of Saigon. That is Everett's real mission to find the jewels however it turns out they were stolen years ago by the pilot of the plane and he is also the one who killed the member of the Trident club when he got too close to the truth.
