Adam West, Burt Ward, Alan Napier, Neil Hamilton, Stafford Repp and Madge Blake's names all appear in the opening animated credits as well as in the ending credits.
(edit) William Dozier said the primary inspiration for him to do this series was hearing reports of how Hugh Hefner would screen the 1949 Batman serials at the Playboy mansion for Playmates and visiting guests every Saturday night and in a campy gesture, everyone would cheer the heroes and boo the villains. (edit) The actor or actress who played the villian or villainess of the week would be credited as the Special Guest Villain/Villianess and have their own theme music. (edit) This is the first appearances of Batman, Robin, Aunt Harriet, Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, Chief O'Hara and The Riddler. (edit) The character of Aunt Harriet was written into the series to counter the rumors that Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson were gay. The series producers felt that a female aunt would "round out" Wayne Manor. She made her way into the comic book storylines in June 1964 becoming a semi-regular character into the mid-1970's until she was completely written out of the comics. Batman: (Looking at Robin) They throw one cigarette overboard and made the boat a cigarette lighter.
(edit) Mr. Peale: Batman. You've made a mistake. He didn't steel the cross.
Robin: What?
Mr. Peale: I tell you it belongs to him. He lent it it me for a show.
Batman: But Mr. Peale. We saw him take it from you at gun point.
Riddler: Gun point? (Grabs gun and light it, laughing)
Robin: Holy ashtrays.

Batman: Maybe your mind's on that cute little teenager who waved to you on the way across town.

Dick: (Coming down the steps) Holy barracuda! You mean. (Looking at Aunt Harriet) Sure, Bruce. Why not? Sounds swell doesn't it Aunt Harriet.
(edit) Bruce: Perhaps, if there had been anti-crime centers at the time we now propose when my parents were murdered by dastardly criminals.
(edit) Commissioner Gordon: I don't know who he is behind that mask of his, but I do know when we need him and we need him now! (edit) Commissioner Gordon: Why is an orange like a bell? You know what this means don't you.
Chief O'Hara: The Riddler.
Gordon: Right.
O'Hara: The Riddler, that inferno prince of puzzlers who's outwitted us a dozen times.

Gotham City is 14 miles for the Batcave entrance. (edit) Goof: Notice Tattle puts Robin over his shoulder when taking him out of the Bat-mobile but when Tattle runs from it, Robin is in his arms and then returns to being over his shoulder at the manhole.

(edit) Batman's disco appearance and subsequent dance number gave rise to a thankfully brief dance craze over the "Batusi". Also, Robin makes his only appearance wearing green cloth gloves (matching the fabric of his green tights); later episodes would have him wearing green leather gloves.
