The Impractical Joker (1)

Episode Number: 55    Season Num: 2    First Aired: November 16, 1966    Prod Code: 9723-Pt. 1
Following clues from The Joker's vandalization of key-like objects around Gotham (tearing up a book, cracking a record, burning a file and lopsiding a sign), The Caped Crusader and The Boy Wonder head to Angus Ferguson's rare key exhibition. There, Joker steals The Jeweled Key Of Kaincardine with the aid of his new invention, a mysterious little spark-spewing box which leaves The Dynamic Duo completely helpless while he escapes with The Key. Ferguson is furious. Later, Batman and Robin follow a televised clue by The Joker and they trace The Homicidal Harlequin to a fur salon, where they encounter the pasty-faced clown and his henchmen.

Batman & Robin capture the mysterious device dropped by the departing Joker, which turns out to be nothing but from a sparkly diversion to help Joker practice hypnotic suggestion! Back in The Batcave, The Batman uses The Batcomputer and a phone book to find Joker's hideout. The Dynamic Duo proceed by Batmobile to the place--resulting in instant capture by The Joker, who places Robin inside a spray wax machine while Batman is strapped to a giant key duplicator!

Notes

add »
Howard Duff later appeared with then-wife Ida Lupino in Season-3 Episode #1722, "The Entrancing Dr. Cassandra" (Mar. 7, 1968). (edit)
Kathy Kersh (Cornelia) was Burt Ward's bride at the time of this episode's production. (edit)
Bruce, Dick and Alfred watch an episode of The Green Hornet (ABC, 1966-67)---prior to it being interrupted by The Joker's televised ultimatum!---little suspecting that a future 2-part segment ("A Piece of the Action/Batman's Satisfaction" [#9751, Mar. 1-2, 1967]) will pit Batman and Robin against The Green Hornet and Kato! (edit)
