Curt Geda has said that the hardest part about designing the Batwoman character was trying to not make her look like Catwoman or Batgirl. (edit) This marks Rupert Thorne's first appearance in the animated continuity since the original series episode "Bane." For reasons that have never been explained, Thorne was never utilized for the revamped episodes (Gotham Knights). Like Two-Face, Harley Quinn, and Ra's al Ghul, Thorne's appearance remains virtually unchanged from his original design, albeit simplified, but similar nonetheless. (edit) Eli Marienthal takes over the role of Tim Drake/Robin from Mathew Valencia. (edit) The country that the Penguin is selling arms to is Kasnia, which is also the focus of the Justice League episodes, "Maid of Honor." (edit) In her only scene in the movie, Barbara Gordon makes it clear during a phone call with Bruce that she's harbouring some romantic intentions toward him. This is foreshadowing of the relationship that, as Gordon herself tells us in Batman Beyond, they will later develop. (edit) Rupert Thorne is the only villain who maintains his previous voice actor (John Vernon). Carlton Duquense was created for the movie, whereas David Ogden Stiers and Hector Elizondo replace Paul Williams and Henry Silva (respectively) as the Penguin and Bane (again, respectively). (edit) Nightwing is absent in this movie. (edit) The emblem on Batwoman's chest bears a striking resemblance to the Batman Beyond logo. (edit)

Ace the Bat-Hound was the canine crime-fighting partner of Batman and Robin, who debuted in Batman #92. (edit) Barbara and Dick are the same age, and Dick is out of college. So it doesn't make sense that Barbara is still in college, and she wasn't in college during the run of the series. (edit) This movie was made after Justice League during its second season, but they use the Batman Gotham Knights batsuit. (edit) It's odd that Thorne would have no objections to Penguin hiring Bane, especially given that the last time Thorne and Bane crossed paths, (the original series episode "Bane") Bane was making plans with Thorne's aide, Candice, to overthrow Thorne and claim his holdings as their own.
