This episode was adapted in comic book format for The Batman Adventures Lost Years #3. The training scene at the end appeared in #5. (edit) As of the "One Year Later" storyline in the comics, Robin's costume takes on a new look nearly identical to the one introduced in this episode (red and black with no green) with the exception of having longer sleeves and a slightly different cape (the one in the comics resembles Batman's). This marks one of the few times the comics have been inspired by the animated verisons of the characters, others being Supergirl's costume taking on the version seen in Superman The Animated Series, as well as the introduction of the characters Harley Quinn, Renee Montoya, and Livewire into the comics after they debuted in the animated continuity. (edit) In the comics, Tim Drake's father was named Jack and both he and Tim had much different backgrounds. Their backgrounds in this episode are very similar to Jason Todd and his father. (edit) Along with the new animation style, this episode and series sees a change in design for the Batmobile and Batman's suit from Batman: The Animated Series. The Batmobile gets a shorter more smooth look rather then the longer sharp angled design. The new design for Batman's suit takes on a classic/current comic look which includes a basic black bat symbol with no yellow oval around it and a pouched utility belt rather than the streamlined version of the TAS. A similar version was seen in a brief sequence from The Mask of the Phantasm and various flashback sequences from B:TAS, and has been used from this episode onwards through Justice League Unlimited. (edit) According to Bruce Timm, the reason that they skipped over Jason Todd being Robin was because the storyline in which he perishes was considered too long and violent for animation. Instead they gave Tim Drake the origins of Jason Todd and Todd was never mentioned in the DC animated setting. (edit) Richard Moll reprises the role of Two-Face from Batman: TAS. (edit) Two-Face was one villain that the original Robin has had a special history with (Robin: Year One). It's no surprise that the debut of the new Robin involved him. (edit) The display case in the Batcave with Robin's old uniform in a glass case is very similar to the display housing the dead second Robin, Jason Todd's, uniform in the comics. (edit) Gordon and Bullock are absent in this episode. (edit)

Despite his long-established penchant for going by twos ($22 million by 2 a.m.), Two Face sets the timer to the gas bomb for three minutes. (edit) Tim is supposed to pick up the 'old' Robin uniform. The one he picks up has a whole different design!! (edit)
