Notes

add »
The robot that Batman and Robin first see when walking into Carl Rossum's room is an imitation of Bat-Mite from the comics. (edit)
This episode, along with "Fire From Olympus" was released on VHS as The Adventures Of Batman & Robin: Fire & Ice. Later it was paired up with the VHS The Adventures Of Batman & Robin: The Joker (consisting of "Christmas With The Joker" and "The Laughing Fish") on DVD. (edit)
Karl Rossum follows a character arc similar to Kirk Langstrom in the series. Rossum starts as villain ("Heart of Steel, Part 1"), then a suspect based on M.O. ("His Silicon Soul"), then an expert in a certain field who points to a suspect more fanatical than he was ("Deep Freeze"). (edit)
Grant Walker makes a return in Gotham Adventures # 5 with the original suit in contrast to Mr. Freeze's new suit. (edit)
LOOK HARD: Among the robots seen in Karl Rossum's apartment, you can see Silver Age characters like Streaky the Super Cat and Krypto the Super Dog robots. (edit)

Quotes

Grant Walker: This is my dream, my vision! I cheated death to make it real, and you won't stop me!
Mr. Freeze: You may live forever, Grant Walker, but your mad dream dies now. (freezes him) (edit)
Mr. Freeze: People of Oceania... your city is doomed. (edit)
Robin: Man, if I spent any more time in that immersion tank, I'd be growing gills. (edit)
Mr. Freeze: (to Grant Walker) Want to live like this? Abandoned and alone. A prisoner in a world you can see but never touch. Old and infirm as you are, I'd trade a thousand of my frozen years for your worse day. (edit)
Mr. Freeze: Eternal life trapped in this wretched shell – what a miserable joke. (edit)

Allusions

add »
The name of Grant Walker's city is 'Oceania,' the same name of the dystopian country in George Orwell's novel '1984.' Also similar to the novel, is that Walker addresses and watches the people of his city via a large television screen, just as Big Brother did in 1984. (edit)
Blade Runner

Karl Rossum is played by William Sanderson, who played J.F. Sebastian in Blade Runner. In both cases the characters build "friends" to keep them company. (edit)
Walt Disney

Grant Walker may be based on Walt Disney, as the story appears to be inspired by the urban legend of the media mogul being placed in cryogenic sleep. (edit)
