Batman: The Animated Series: Episode Trivia
Season:
- There are currently no trivia for this episode.
- In Mayor Hill's office Harvey Dent is seen flipping a coin. He is not seen doing this again until the two-part "Two Face" episode.
- After battling with the Man-Bat creature, Batman's face is bloody and bruised. This is the first and only time in this series that a character is shown bleeding, as some parents found the image too disturbing for younger children.
- This episode introduces not only Bruce Wayne/Batman, but also Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner James Gordon, District Attorney Harvey Dent, Detective Harvey Bullock and Mayor Hamilton Hill.
- Toon Disney does a rather interesting edit to this quote...
Mr. Freeze: Think of it Batman. To never again walk upon a summer's day with a hot wind in your face and a warm hand to hold. Oh yes, I'd kill for that.
Toon Disney cuts out "I'd kill for that" making it not nearly as emotional. - Goof
Two times the colors of the bat logo on Batman's chest switches, yellow bat on a black oval.
The first time just after Batman breaks his 'ice-cuffs', while hanging upside down.
The second time when he lands after knocking out the guy behind the control panel of the freeze canon. - Batman's uttering "My god!" was quite unusual for a network cartoon at the time. (1992) Normally, the censors wouldn't have passed words directly discussing religion, like god and hell. In particular, using "My god!" in that context would have been considered blasphemous by most cartoon censors. Taking God's name in vain was as equally frowned upon as even positively discussing religion in cartoons.
- The tape of the accident that created Mr. Freeze features close-ups and jump cuts. If the recording was automated as it appears to be, this is not possible.
- When Batman is dressed as a security guard he reaches into his Batbelt and pulls out the key card. As he reaches for the card, it appears in his hand out of nowhere.
- When the legs of one of Mr. Freeze's thugs are frozen he is wearing shoes. Later when the ice surrounding his feet and legs thaw in a chemical bath in the batcave, he is not wearing shoes.
- Toon Disney does a rather interesting edit to this quote...
- When Batman drops Bell into the rooftop pool, the police immediately tell him that he is under arrest. Why would they arrest someone when they don't even know who it is? Even if they saw Bell's face, they have no reason to arrest him.
- When Germs and Bell catch Hagen in the Daggett Industries laboratory, he turns around and claims he's Bruce Wayne. Surely he doesn't think this will work, since they were with him when he originally impersonated Wayne?
- When Bell first appears inside the tramway, he isn't wearing his headphones. However, he's suddenly wearing them on his first closeup after Lucius Fox is pinned under the sign.
- When Bell and Germs catch Hagen before the first commercial break, they're both armed with pistols. After the break, not only is Germs now holding a shotgun, but Bell's weapon has disappeared entirely.
- The jar of Renuyu that Hagen hurls at the window is empty (or so he claims), but when Teddy looks at it on the floor, it's still got some of the cream in it.
- When he is putting on his costume after he get's out of jail, Bruce/Batman says that Bell said he didn't know who impersonated Bruce Wayne. Bell didn't say anything like that. He had fainted when Batman was questioning him.
- One of Daggett's bodyguards loses his hat when he's knocked aside by Clayface, but it's back on in the next shot.
- Germs' trenchcoat mysteriously disappears by the time Clayface gets him to the roof of the hospital, despite the fact that his arms are bound in such a way as would prevent the coat from being removed.
- The jar of Renuyu that Batman finds in Hagen's dressing room doesn't match the one from the previous episode at all.

- Even though this was the first "Joker Episode" to air on TV; it was actually the fourth episode made with the Joker.
- How exactly did Charlie know that the bomb was a fake? And furthermore, shouldn't the Joker recognize his own gadgets?
- When the Joker reads Charlie's driver's license, he reads his full name "Charles Michael Collins". Later, we see that it reads Charles Collins, with no mention of his middle name.
- There are currently no trivia for this episode.
- When Batman breaks free of the flytrap, his cape is ripped and torn. When he ducks under Ivy's dart, it's whole again, but is ripped by the passage of the dart. As he runs from Ivy, his cape is patched again.
- When Poison Ivy first appears from behind Batman, you can see that her legs are bare. In the next scene - and all the scenes thereafter - her legs are covered with green tights.
- First episode that skips a day then airs.
- Water sprinklers usually won't work on a gasoline fire. The bank should have gone up in flames.
- This episode is first on the list of premises in the series bible. Originally, the Joker kidnaps Jordan outright and forces Batman through a series of traps to rescue him.
- The cards that Joker first launches at Batman disappear from the wall after he launches his final volley.
- When The Joker, (in disguise as the clown entertaining at the party) first holds up the poster featuring the magician "Prosciutto" it is spelled "Proscuitto." Then, the next time the poster is revealed "Prosciutto" is spelled correctly. BUT, when Batman matches the poster up with the actual location, the "u" was before the "i" again. Also, the lettering is different. The first and third time the lettering is in print and the second time it is cursive.
- Based on the Batman comic book "There is no hope on Crime Alley".
- Crime Alley is presented as the old "Park Row" street. However, the street signs of both the old and new street show "Park Ave" instead.
- One has to question why a two million dollar sting was being carried out by one detective, one officer, and a rookie. Also, why were two of the three officers not on the scene until the last minute?
- In Bullock's flashback, the gangster with the scarf loses his hat and doesn't bother to stop and collect it when he and his comrade flee the fire. However, when the pair are shown exiting the warehouse at the beginning of the episode, he has his hat back on.
- There's a continuity error in the fight between Temple Fugate and Batman. Batman's suit gets ripped across the chest, but every shot following that one fails to show any sign of the rip.
- When Batman rips the masks off The Joker's henchmen, they were facing him, meaning that when Batman held their masks, the the faces of the masks should've been facing him as well. However, when he held their masks, the faces on the masks were facing the camera, away from Batman.
- In this episode, The Joker wears a sort of bubble-helmet instead of the typical gas mask and his henchmen wear protective masks which look like clown masks. At other times in the series, his henchmen wear regular gas masks when he's using his standard laughing gas.
- When Alfred talks while holding the drawing of the bath, the top part of the drawing briefly disappears.
- The Joker stabs the barrel Batman's in six times in all directions, yet when it shows the barrel from the outside again all six holes are on the same side. Also, when Captain Clown tosses the barrel into the river, the holes briefly disappear.
- This is the first episode in which Efrem Zimbalist Jr does the voice of Alfred, taking over from Clive Revil, Efrem still did the voice up until his appearance on the Justice League episode "Starcrossed, Part 3".
- When Alfred pours a glass of the Demetrite while in the batcave, the liquid is obviously a dark green. However, as he lifts the glass to drink from it, the liquid momentarily disappears. It is back to dark green in the next camera angle.
- When Bruce combined Poison Ivy's chemical with human blood in a test tube, a violent chemical reaction resulted creating an rapidly growing vine and destroying the test tube.
This is obviously exaggerated for dramatic effect as Alfred and others consumed the same chemical and had no such reaction in their stomachs as the chemical entered their bloodstreams. - The clothing, jewelry, and eyeglasses worn by Ivy's 'grove' have begun to turn to wood. None of those things would have turned to wood, since they are not made of human flesh, and therefore would not react to Ivy's enzyme.
- The names of enzymes predominantly (if not always) end with the suffix '-ase'. Naming an enzyme 'demetrite', rather than 'demitrase' makes your story that much more suspect, especially to people who are running chemical companies.
- The part where the thug kicks mud onto Harvey's suit, is the same side that becomes "dirty" or in other words, where he is hidesouly deformed. After that incident Harvey shows his two-face side by attacking the thug.
- When Harvey is initially taken to hospital following the accident, you can clearly see his neck (and presumably all lower) is unaffected, as is his hair. When Two-Face emerges, the skin on the left side of his neck is blue, and his hair is half white. In the second part of the episode, it becomes clear that even his left hand has been turned blue.
- Whenever Two-Face makes a decision by flipping his coin, when the marred side is up he acts as Two-Face, but when the clean side is up he acts as Harvey would act.
- When Two-Face is putting the stolen cash in his wallet, we see a card on the right side of his wallet. The name on the card is TWOFACE. What kind of company lets people get cards with names other than legal names?

- It is implied that after kidnapping Bruce, Biggis' men take the Studebaker to the junkyard. But how exactly did they know this was Bruce's car, since he was walking along on foot when they jumped him?
Reply: We don't actually see them taking it. It could've easily been towed. The truck just happened to be at the same location. - One more instance of one of Biggis' men seemingly being in two places at once: A hefty man in a white shirt wearing a miner's helmet with a whip on his belt is shown helping herd new prisoners from the truck and into the camp; mere seconds later, this exact same man is the one in the watchtower who spots Bruce escaping and alerts everyone.
- When Bruce and Dan Riley are fighting Boss Biggis' men to protect Salvo Smith, Riley punches a bearded guy, knocking him down. In the very next shot, of Biggis yelling at his men to get them, the same bearded man is shown in the background behind Biggis.
- When Boss Biggis' men seize the prisoner in the green shirt, there is a bald man with glasses and a blue outfit standing amongst the prisoners. Later, when Biggis' men are bringing in new prisoners (as Bruce is escaping), this exact same man can be seen being taken from the truck, implying he is a new arrival.

- The title "Perchance to Dream" is not only based off a Shakespeare quote, but a Twilight Zone episode in which a man is afraid of falling asleep for fear of being killed in a reality that seems so utopian-like. This plot is similar to that of the Twilight Zone's.
- It is possible to read in a dream, it just requires self-awareness.
- There are several events in the dream part of this episode that seem to contradict reality. Notice that the grappling hook and rope that Bruce buys can't possibly be long enough to climb up the bell tower. Also, when "Batman" swings down to the bell tower...where is he swinging from? There's no place nearby higher than the tower. These may all be indicative of the twisted nature of the dream-reality rather than actual errors, however.
- There are 'Bat-signals" in the eyes of the police woman, just before the police car is going to hit Batman.

- Dr. Dorian told Batman that he'd have a 5-minute head-start to get away from Tygrus. Not surprisingly, Dorian only waited 5 seconds after Batman started running before he as much as told Tygrus to "sic' him".

- Okay, there are a lot of weird inconsistencies all throughout the episode (like the observatory telescope becoming a cannon??), but one of the more obstinate goofs occurs inside the Laffco toy factory. When Donner and Blitzen open fire on Batman's cloak, we see that it's riddled with bullet holes. However, when he puts it back on, there are no holes.
- When the Joker is shooting his television program a shot of the audience is shown. The audience is of cardboard people. Among the people shown are show regulars Commissioner Gordon, Officer Renee Montoya, Batman, Mayor Hill, Robin, Alfred, Harvey Dent and Harvey Bullock.

- When using playing cards to tell Bruce's fortune, Zatanna guesses wrong; Bruce had drawn the joker. Nonetheless, Wayne's future was inadvertantly and correctly predicted, since he would encounter the Clown Prince of Crime numerous times as the Batman.
